So I wasn't even planning on skipping school today, but Dad told me he wasn't taking me to school in the bad weather this morning and I sure as hell wasn't walking.
Anyway.
I'm writing again. Got my head wrapped around a few stories and they're formulating.
I wish my X-Box was working. I wanna work on that Ellis/Scout story, but not having L4D2 is kind of hurting me... I really did want to get the "Tank Burger" achievement before the DLC. I am happy that a new campaign, featuring the other survivors, is coming "late march," though. :) Hopefully the 'Box gets fixed before then. I don't really know what's wrong with it - I have audio, and I got my video working again... before it fried out completely and went to a black screen. My usuage of the past tense verb "fried" implies that I'm thinking my X-Box may have overheated at some point and melted the graphics card, which is directly located beneath the heat sink. Eeeesh.
I played in a HeroClix tournament last night, running a 500-point team I called "Team Fangirl". The theme was that all my peices had to share at least one power on their starting click. My theme was Perplex, and my pieces were two Secret Invasion-set Ironmen (plural for Ironman), Deadpool, and The Question. I wiped out one guy's team, and then I got wiped out the next game. My Ironmen were awesome, Perplexing their damage up for every shot. SI Ironman already deals four damage unmodified, so when Deadpool and the other Ironman Perplexed up, he was dealing six damage a pop. :D It was mega-win!
In the end of the tournament, I didn't place very high. My ending score was 666 pts total. XD First place went to Mitch with 1400-and-so-odd.
Yeah, Team Fangirl had me plotting some sort of cracky fan fic, and that propelled me to write for a fandom I haven't touched yet: Marvel. Oh, I read the stuff and buy the comics, but I haven't contributed to the fan community yet.
As for Team Fortress 2, I actually wrote a short-fic dealing with Medic, a broken Respawn, and a busted Medigun. It's back to the roots of battlefield medicine, bucko. No technology to save you now, and if someone dies, they're really dead... It's a Engineer-Medic team up fic, and it's slash if you squint. I wasn't going for that at all. It was more of a character sketch for the Medic-Engie and Medic-Heavy dynamic.
Times, they are a'changin'.
No, I still like my slash. Don't even think for a minute I don't. I'm just branching out and writing something that's not romantic, fluffy, or even all that slash-tastic. It's action and drama, with perhaps a small romantic subtext. So it goes.
I started something with Demo man and Medic, hopefully demonstrating an unlikely friendship... even though there's the whole buisness with Demo sleeping with Medic's wife (I don't know which color or if they're on the same side) and War with Soldier. But you know, whatever. I like characters that are entire solar systems different. I like all the research that's going into writing it, too. Gotta make sure I write their accents correctly and not so much so that you can't even read and comprehend what's being said. I want to get their characters right - think of it as another literary sketch.
I want to write something Red Vs. Blue and sort of break the mold again. Yeah, I know it's slash and what have you, but that doesn't mean I can't twist it away from all the sugar-sugar-love-love. Doesn't mean I don't like that sort of thing some times, but ALL THE TIME? I wanted to write a Valentine's Day story, but I'm trying to think on how to do it in a way they won't expect it... Hmm.
I'm sure I'll figure something out.
I'm just happy I'm writing again. It's good to be home.
