Christmas!

Let's be honest, it would be REALLY hard for me to have a Christmas as bad as last year's. But even considering that, this Christmas was better than most.

Let's start with the obvious: loot. Um. Hmm. Y'know, this year I spent quite a bit more on others than myself. I did get new tires for my car, but that sounds awfully boring. Same with the towels and blankets I received. As much as I appreciate my mother feeling like she's providing for me, I already have plenty of blankets and towels, and I fear gifts like this are just donations to Good Will. Also, the grocery bag of candy canes would have been cool when I was 9, but I just don't suck on that kind of cane any more.

What? I thought that line was clever.

Got a few books, one of which is called The Evolution of Obesity, which takes a purely scientific look at obesity in the Western World in it's entirety: from the social impact to the nitty-gritty biological aspects (like why do some people get fat asses while others get fat guts?). I'm hoping it maybe will explain a few things I've been wondering about. Also got a few Blu-Rays, one of which is Rubber, the best damned movie out there.

Really though, it was the gifts I gave myself that were greatest. I got myself a little micro-component stereo, so now when I'm blazed in my room I can pop a disc in and chill. I got a red 3DS for an incredibly cheap price. And best of all: I got a little RC helicopter. www.litehawk.ca.

This last one I will make particular emphasis. Why? Because unlike the rest of my gifts which you can look at as items that any adult would enjoy (even the 3DS), the litehawk is just a toy. It serves no other function than to bring about amusement. And in this it has excelled. I giggled when this little metal contraption with it's flashing LED's flew for the first time. I think Christmas should be all about feeling like you're a kid again. This $40 toy did that in spades.

What didn't I like this year? Well, Hanukkah came right on Boxing Day, which is a little more family than I can handle at a time. Seeing my entire extended family all at once is a bit overwhelming for me. I'm really not like any of them. And while I can certainly find kinship in my immediately family, it's becoming harder and harder for me to feel like I'm part of a family with everyone else. We're all very... different. We don't really relate. Heh. I show up, say "yup, still single, work still sucks", and then that's about it. It's not that I'm unhappy (although I can say honestly that's only changed in the past few months), it's just that I can't really share what makes me happy with these people. My friends make me happy. Sex makes me happy. Games makes me happy. I can't really discuss these things with my family because they either don't care, don't get it, or don't want to hear it. But that's fine. I show up, look generally altogether (if enigmatic), eat as much as possible, and then leave. It seems to make them happy, so why not?

But as with any family, there's alot of conflict and cattiness, so it puts stress on me. And unlike my sister, I still feel weird if I smoke a bowl in the garage. I also had a bit of a cold, so that was probably a bad idea anyhow.

I seem to have gotten off track. Oh right! The point is, the best gift is the one you give yourself to make you feel 12 years old again. And I never, ever want to lose that inner child, so stuff like this is very important to me.

And now bedtime since I work tomorrow. Phooie.
