“Hey come check this out!” a short 8-yr old honey colored hair girl with pigtails followed the lanky just turned 7 yr old black-haired boy through the trees. They walked for a while going deeper in the woods. Suddenly, the lanky kid stopped in place resulting in the girl running into him.

“Jack, where are we? Why are we here? We need to get back to your birthday party. Your mom is going to wonder where we are.” the honey colored hair rambled as she walked around the clearing they had come upon.

“Alex, calm down for a minute please. You know I would never let anything happen to you. You’re like my bestest friend ever. I don’t care, if you’re a girl. I have to do three things tonight. They are very important. So I need you here. I don’t want others around.”

“What? Why?” Alex questioned as she tugged at her party dress.

“Because.”

“Because why?”

“Just because.”

“Just because why?”

“Alex, stop it. I’m serious.” Jack told the girl standing before him.

“Sorry.” Alex replied seeing Jack’s serious face.

“Okay,” he took a deep breath as he pulled himself together, “Alex, you’re my bestest friend ever. You’re the coolest person I’ve ever met in my entire life. Even though, you’re a girl with cooties. I’m going to risk getting cooties to do this.”

“Do wha-” Alex was interrupted by Jack’s lips claiming hers. He quickly pulled away with his eyes tightly shut and his body tensing up. Alex stared at him in confusion for a few minutes.

“Umm... Jacky, what are you doing?” Alex questioned. Jack opened one eye looking around for something. He finally allowed his body to relax and his eyes open.

“What was that all about?”

“I was waiting to explode.” He replied seriously. Alex started to giggle. .

“What?!” Alex continued to giggle.

“My friends told me that if you kiss a girl, your lips shrivel up and fall off and your eyes pop out of your sockets and your organs fall out of your body and your butt dissolves.” Jack explained exaggerating with hand movements.

“Jack.” Alex calmly called his name. “Jack!” she called again as he continued freaking out and rambling, this time capturing his attention.

“Jack, it's okay. Nothing is going to happen.”

“But. But. But.” Alex shook her head as she watched her bestest friend of forever look genuinely terrified. She grabbed his face to make him look at her. This time she claimed his lips with his own. Quickly pulling back, she smiled at him.

“Why would you do that?” Jack asked in surprise.

“'Cause if you're going to get cooties, then I want them too.” She smiled knowingly. Jack smiled back.

“I would risk cooties every time to be with you.”

“So what were the other 2 things you wanted to do?” Alex asked remembering what he said earlier.

“Oh yeah!” Jack eyes brightened up, “I was planning on exploding, I wanted to give you this,” he pulled out of his pocket a Ring Pop and a chain with a mini guitar on it, “you can still have them, even though I'm not dead or whatever.” He rubbed the back of his head as he talked. Alex saw his blush. In return, Alex blushed at the gifts.

She looked at the necklace and exclaimed, “Jack this is your favoritest thing ever! Why are you giving this to me?”

“'Cause you're the only person I trust to keep it in memory of my awesomeness.” Jack struck a supposedly manly pose. Alex giggled in response.

“Your awesomeness, huh?” Alex questioned, “So what's the Ring Pop for?”

“Oh yeah, I saw this in a movie.” Jack stated as he opened the Ring Pop and got down on one knee. “Alex, umm you're special to me... so uhh spend the rest of your life with me, please marry me?”

“Jack, what?!” Alex's face was a full blown tomato by this point.

“Sorry. I messed that up... Ummm... my dad told me that when you're asking someone to marry you, you're asking someone special to you like your bestest friend ever to always be there with you. He also said that people usually ask with rings, so I got you a ring.” He rubbed the back of his head nervously rambling more, “I'm asking you to be my bestest friend forever.” He slipped the Ring Pop on her tinier hands.
Alex looked up at the younger, but taller boy. Left speechless, she could only nod.

“AWESOME!” Jack screamed in excitement. He grabbed her hand and together they ran back to his backyard. When they reappeared, they looked around to see their friends and classmates running around and laughing. They quickly rejoined the festivities.

“Cake everyone!” Jack's mom called as she brought it out to the picnic table set up for the occasion.

“Who wants ice cream?!” Jack's father asked he set down a tub of Neapolitan ice cream.

“Make a wish, Jack!” his parents exclaimed as Jack set himself up at the head of the table with Alex on his right with the Ring Pop gracing her finger, the guitar necklace gracing her neck, and a smile gracing her face.

A chorus of happy birthdays came from the children sitting around the table as Jack blew out the candles. Everyone was given cake and ice cream as the party continued. After cake and ice cream, Jack, Alex, and the other children continued their games until parents came and picked up the rest of them.

After everyone else had left, Alex and Jack sat on the floor of his room playing with his new toys.

“So when are you going to tell me what your wish was on the cake?” Alex casually asked.

“Alex, you know if I tell you, then it won't come true and I really want this one to come true.” Jack replied. Alex pouted because Jack and her never kept anything from each other.

“Fine.” Alex continued to pout. Jack was saved from the pout by a knock on his door. It opened to reveal Mrs. Barakat and Mrs. Gaskarth.

“Alex, honey, it's time to go home.” Mrs. Gaskarth called to her daughter.

“Okay mum.” Alex pouted more as she got up to go.

“Alex, stop pouting. Ladies don't pout. You know you'll see him tomorrow.” Alex smiled at the thought knowing her mother was right. She spent more time at Jack's house than her own.

“Bye Jack.” She smiled as she grabbed her mother's hand and walked out of the room towards the stairs.

“Alex! Wait!” Jack called as he ran after them, down the stairs, catching them at the front door. ”Alex, thanks for the awesomest birthday ever! Forever bestest friends.”

Alex grabbed Jack and pulled him close to kiss his cheek whispering, “Of course,” before heading out the door with her mother.

“Where are we going? I don't like being blindfolded.” A light brunette young woman followed a taller, but younger dark-haired male through the trees. They came upon a clearing and the young man pulled the blindfold off the woman's eyes.

“Jack, where are we? Why are we here? Zack and Rian are going to wonder where we are.” the female started ramble as she walked around the clearing.

“Alex, do you honestly, not remember this place?” Jack asked with slight hurt in his voice.

“Umm... I mean it's slightly familiar, I just don't know why.”

“Alex, you can't be serious. I risked getting cooties from you in this exact spot all those years ago.” She gasped in recognition as memories flooded Alex's head as she looked around and then finally at Jack.

“Our first kiss,” she whispered. She then burst out laughing. “You thought you were going to explode!”

“Shut up,” Jack responded jokingly, “Every 7 year old thinks getting cooties will make you explode. Plus, I would do it all over again,” he smirked as he pulled her closer to him capturing her lips with his own. “Completely worth it.”

“Oh really then.” Alex stated as she pulled slightly away. “Well, I also remember being showered with gifts.” Jack started laughing.

“That is slightly true.” He pulled out of his pocket a chain with a guitar on it. Just like the one he gave to her all those years ago. “I'm so glad you kept this. I stole it from you and had it refurbished and the chain fixed. Now you can start wearing this every day like you did the first time.”

“Jack...” Alex said full of emotional as he put the necklace around her neck.

“I do remember a Ring Pop being in the picture all those years ago.” Alex remarked. “Even though I ate that one later that night after I went home.”

“Oh yeah. Well, I couldn't really find one in the stores. So I got you something else instead. Alex, you're my best friend in the entire world. You're the coolest person that I've ever met in my entire life, even though you are a girl with cooties,” Alex chuckled at that, “I'm willing to risk to get cooties to be able to kiss you every day. Fifteen years ago, I asked you to be my bestest friend ever with a Ring Pop, but today,” he paused as he pulled out a small black box from his other pocket as he went down on one knee, “I'm asking you to be my wife and spend forever with me, umm... will you marry me?”

Alex gasped in surprised. She could only nod as she was left speechless. Jack smiled as he slipped the ring on finger like he did with the Ring Pop all those years ago.

“My dad always told me I would need to marry my best friend and now I get to.” Jack said excitedly.

“This speech was much better than your speech fifteen years ago.” Alex stated as she hugged Jack. “Though the Ring Pop was a much better ring.” She stuck her tongue out at him.

“Well I couldn't get you a Ring Pop. Does this make up for it?” Jack asked before pulling Alex to him and planting a kiss on her lips that simply took her breathe away. When they broke apart, Alex smiled and simply stated,

“That was definitely sweeter than any Ring Pop you could have given me.”
