You all saw it coming. And I’ve got a story why, so please read on.
Believe it or not, most of the Disney villains scared the crap out of me as a little kid, and the Queen was no exception. I refused to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs until I was seven and the ride attraction until I was nine; her and the forest scene was pure terror! I’m not sure when I grew a backbone but I’m really glad I did.
Why her? Why not the other bad-ass guys with their sorcery powers and fiery tempers?
Well for one, she’s the one that started it all. She was the first movie villain and then the basis for how evil a Disney villain should be. According to Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, they felt Walt "restrained his animators from creating such a terrifying villain again" (And yes, I’m looking at you, you stupid comedic and self-redeeming villains! You’re all a disgrace!)
Even after so many decades and numerous Disney movies and villains later she’s still able to make many Top Villains list. While she can do magic, she doesn’t use it to show off her power. She doesn’t even need it! All her evil is from pure human nature: Jealousy, fury, and vanity. Her cold, subtle, and cutthroat personality, along with the fact that she is a Queen is the main focus to showcase how terribly powerful she can be without any incantation or use of a weapon or even a lackey, as her huntsman proved incompetent so.
