Yeah, as said, I've been rereading OotP, and I've been wondering, especially as I've noticed far less animosity between Ron and Draco (though we haven't got to Weasley is My King), what the big hub-bub is about Ron being too immature for Hermione.
And perhaps he is too immature for her, but no less than Harry is too immature for Hermione. In fact I've noticed that Ron has being showing LOADS more maturity than Harry. Sure, there's times where they're about equal with each other, but I never really get a sense of Harry being the more mature of the two. Besides, what average 15 year old boy do you know that's mature. Hell, most of the adults in the Potterverse are hardly what I'd call mature (Sirius ans Severus especially).
Most of what I've noticed from Ron so far in my reread is ambivalence, reasoning with Harry, embarrassment, and avoiding conflict. By no means the most impressive reasoning for saying he's mature. I don't think he is, he's just a 15 year old boy, and I spend enough time around 15 year old boys while working to know how "mature" they are when their parents aren't watching.
All I am trying to say that Ron is no less mature than Harry and what with Harry's temper (the two of them seem to have swapped tempers), the CAPS LOCK-ness of it all, and how everything is just "so unfair!" that he's less mature than Ron. Also, Sirius and Harry are at the same maturity level, there's no mistaking it. Their indignation at the way Dumbledore is treating them is quite uncalled for.
So, can someone please explain to me why in fan fic Harry is mature enough for relationships, but Ron is not?
