I agree, Dean should have told Lisa the truth. He should have told her about being turned into a vamp and the dangers that he is facing right now. Knowledge is power and this kind of knowledge could only help Lisa and possibly strengthen Dean and Lisa's relationship.
As to the pounding Dean gave Sam. I don't think he went overboard. For months now he has been trying to reconnect with his brother, to only be ignored and put aside and to have the trust issues rear their ugly head, yet again. And then when Sam allowed Dean to turn into a vamp. On top of that, this decision of lack of decision by Sam, put Lisa and Ben in danger and possibly destroyed the one semi-healthy relationship he has going. All that anger, frustration, and hurt just boiled up and out. Dean is a master of pushing things down, but after Lisa points that exact fact out to him when she says goodbye, this just kind of becomes the breaking point for Dean and Dean can no longer hold all that rage, anger, frustration and hurt in and Sam, unwittingly (or wittingly) becomes his punching bag. No one brother is totally at fault here, I agree there. It takes two to harm or heal a relationship, but Dean has been taking crap for far too long not to finally reach his boiling point and losing Lisa and Ben, and having them put in danger because of Sam's lack of empathy, or whatever, Dean reached his boiling point. With all this in mind, I can totally understand why Dean went postal and took it out on Sam. I was cheering for him on the sidelines.
Oh definitely. He did the worse thing, not give her any explanation at all. Not talking about something won't make it go away or solve anything. Unfortunately most of the time Dean doesn't get this. At the same time, it seems so often when he actually WANTS to talk, people don't have the time for him.
I mean overboard because he kept punching Sam even after he was totally out of it. I can understand why Dean did it for sure. Sam is very manipulative and he has no problem using Dean to his own ends. I might even wager that Sam is a bit emotionally abusive toward Dean. I don't know. So, it's not like I don't know why he did it.
I just have a hard time justifying violence when it's not in self defense. That was definitely a one sided fight. At the same time Sam didn't even attempt to get away of block the blows. I kind of feel like he let it happen.
Having said all that, I was okay with the first punch!
I see, understand and agree with your comments about Dean's pummeling of Sam was not in self-defense. Usually, I am right there with you, thinking that the pounding was not justified, but for some reason, I don't see it that way and didn't have a hard time with this.
And I don't think Sam "let" it happen. Dean caught Sam off guard with his first punch. Totally unexpected and not something Dean would characteristically do, which is why I think he was able to get the upper hand and with the first hard punch, Sam was leveled and Dean just kept them coming so Sam didn't really stand a chance.
