I think that I realized something tonight at three in the morning after watching Battlestar Galactica because I couldn't sleep.
Relationships, whether friendships or otherwise, are like boxing matches. I mean, if you go all out in the first round, you'll have nothing to give by round three or four. In the same vein, if you just stand around and don't pay attention, you'll just get your ass handed to you. I think the right thing to do is to stay sharp, look for an opening and attack (depending on the type of relationship, this can range from hugs and kisses to actually throwing punches). I suppose that it's all about paying attention, rolling with the punches and making your counterattack when the the opening presents itself. You've gotta be prepared for round twelve and beyond.
