Summary:For the first time since they met, Donghae was the one that was stunned.
It was the beginning of June when the trails of spring was still vivid at the feet of the sky. The wind that blew was synchronized with the chimes of laughter and happy tunes emitted from narrow alleys between the skyscrapers at every side of the busy town.
He leaned his stomach against the railing at the balcony of the small apartment where everything in the town was right before his eyes. It was the very same day when his life began to change. It’s not just a small plain apartment he should have lived in, it’s not a simple job he should have worked on, it’s not just a little farthings he should have enjoyed spending.
But they’re not the things that mattered to him even now.
Closing his eyes, he began to bring himself in his mind to the past times. Although the situation surrounded him was clearly different, the wind in the same season that day felt the same.
Slowly, he was developing.
---
Hyukjae, you will be meeting uncle Kim’s daughter today. You might not be able to follow the lesson until the end of the school, I have told your homeroom teacher about it. Be sure to meet uncle Park before one, I have told him to wait for you at the west gate.
It kept echoing in Hyukjae’s head all throughout the math lesson. He tried really hard to concentrate because the finals were just around the corner and math is not his forte but his mind just didn’t allow him to. He suddenly became nauseous of all things occurred that time. He felt like he wanted to vomit out all things that bothered him both outside and inside his body.
Hyukjae stood up so suddenly. The sound of the screeching chair and desk in the eerie classroom made practically all of the students laid his eyes on him. Not to mention, he was not a kind of people that was really unrecognizable. In fact, he was one of the most known students in his grade because of his family status. Wonders started to creep inside his classmate’s mind when he walked his way to the teacher.
“What is it, Lee Hyukjae?”
“My body doesn’t feel alright may I go to the nursery?” Hyukjae tried to be as convincing as possible because the chance of going out from the teacher’s class was very slim. And he badly needed to go out of the classroom.
The teacher observed him a while before finally said the words,
“Alright. Make sure you go get some rest.”
Hyukjae tried to hide his smile and excused himself from the class, oblivious of the envy stares his classmates were emitting.
Once he was outside the classroom, he walked slowly down the alley while taking a look at his watch. He had still one more hour before 1 pm when he supposed to find his driver at the school gate, go home and prepare for the idiotic meeting his mother had arranged for him.
He was sick of all that his mother did to him. Arranging meeting with his work partners and their daughters, planning an early marriage in order for their company to be legally partners with the other, and all that things he considered stupid.
He kept walking slowly and carefully, afraid of meeting any teacher that might be around somewhere outside the classroom that time. He randomly turned into a corner beside the unused hall that used to be a canteen and found a stair to go upstairs.
He knew it was heading to the rooftop, but he never went there.
After a moment of thinking, he decided to step up there.
He climbed carefully on the stairs that had rusts covered its railing. He was just behind the door when he accidentally read something written on the door. It was written with a dark blue pen over the light brown board door, not really clear but he just caught it in his vision.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail
He stood there for a moment thinking of what he had just read. If he was not mistaken, it was something his English teacher had every quoted. It was something he remembered was once in his test. He never understood what it means though.
He then chose to ignore it and carefully pushed the door that had no knob and greeted with a huge wave of the season transition wind. He could feel it went past his hair and messed it in seconds.
He was rather surprised with it but it’s not a match with the surprise he got when he saw a guy with the same uniform as him sat right before the door, leaning at the wall on the other side of the rooftop with a book in his lap. He didn’t look at Hyukjae’s direction until a few seconds later when he had finally felt his presence.
Hyukjae was surprised and nervous at the same time. He didn’t expect anyone to be here especially when it’s not a recess time. Moreover, he didn’t know who the guy was and what to say at that time.
Is he skipping class too like me?
They’re on a silence for a few moment with eyes met each other’s. When finally the guy turned his attention back to the book, Hyukjae managed to say,
“Is it alright if I stay here?”
Hyukjae got no option than to ask that. He wouldn’t directly go back downstairs because it would be so much embarrassing, and he was asking for a permission secretly hoping a no as an answer. Then, he would have a nice reason to get back downstairs.
The guy didn’t say anything and continued to read.
Hyukjae was not a kind of person that could get easily nervous and scared over something, but the situation that time was just different. Hyukjae couldn’t describe it with words and he was just as nervous as hell with the guy he barely even knew.
“Are you going to keep standing in front of the door like that?” The guy asked after a whole minute of nothing.
Hyukjae was a bit startled from the things he thought in his mind and didn’t directly answer. He instead was staring at the guy that was now looking at him.
He realized that he wore a pair of full-framed glasses, and behind those glasses, he got a perfect pair of eyes that was looking at him in a…
Intense way?
“What are you looking at?” The guy wondered aloud when he found out that Hyukjae was creasing his eyebrows at him.
Hyukjae snapped out from his mind and cursed himself for being so idiotic,
“Are you asking me to leave?”
“You better don’t stand in front of the door because someone may come up and you may be pushed,” he paused, “there are a lot of space for you to stand here.”
Hyukjae was stunned for a moment but he then walked forward, stayed away from the door. He then took a deep silent breath and quietly sat not far from the guy, leaning against the wall too and brought his knees up in front of his stomach.
He had been taught to always be nice to a new person in his life by his parents for his knowledge of the business world since he was a little kid. So he built up his courage, which had never been this hard before and said it in an adequate volume,
“I’m Lee Hyukjae. Are you a senior?”
Hyukjae looked at the guy’s direction waiting for the answer. The guy didn’t immediately answer but he eventually did,
“I am.”
The guy didn’t even spare Hyukjae a look which irritated him a bit.
Is it that hard to look at me and give a polite smile?
“What’s your name?” Hyukjae wondered aloud despite of his irritation.
The guy finally turned his attention from the book,
“Is it important for you to know?”
Hyukjae looked stunned at his answer.
Is this guy an anti-social or what? Is it wrong to ask for a name?
“If you don’t want to tell, it’s okay,” Hyukjae managed to say. He didn’t want to build up a quarrel so he just kept everything inside. It’s after all not a person that would matter much for him. Well, that was what he thought.
It was silence after that. The guy didn’t seem have the want to talk to Hyukjae. So he just continued to leaned and enjoyed the wind. It was not humid or cloudy. It was simply windy. He decided that day that he loves a windy weather. He closed his eyes and he felt something he had longed for.
He felt comfortable.
He imagined how it would be if there was no one there. Maybe it would be a lot more comfortable and refreshing.
But he couldn’t even get the picture to his mind.
Hyukjae tried to shoo the thoughts that said the guy was the one who made him comfortable by his presence and kept closing his eyes. Moments passed and the only sound heard were the sound of the strong wind and the sound of the pages of the book the guy was reading turned.
Hyukjae enjoyed the moment and practically forgot about the arrangement her mother made. He was startled when the thing suddenly came across his mind. He took a look at his watch and sighed when it read one past five.
He groaned and stood up. Why he should get remembered? It’s really better if he wasn’t.
He was about to pulled the door by its edge when a voice prevented him to,
“Where are you going? You don’t seem to be happy with it.”
Hyukjae was surprised with the sudden words came out from the guy. He could have thought that the guy was illiterate of saying nice things and though what he just said was not really nice, it showed that the guy was at least paying attention.
But Hyukjae also learned how to take revenge.
“Is it really important for you to know?” Hyukjae said mimicking Donghae’s serious expression earlier and turned his body back to the door. He was smiling satisfied like crazy.
The guy chuckled a bit and again it heard the sound of the page turning, although Hyukjae couldn’t see him, he could imagine the guy turned back his attention to his freaky book again.
“Only dead fish go with the flow.”
Hyukjae was again stunned at what the guy said.
Only dead fish go with the flow
What is the intention of this guy to say such things to him? It was as if Hyukjae never realized what it means. It was as if Hyukjae never thought about it before.
He knew he was the dead fish. Following everything his parents told him to, learning everything his parents told him to, thinking they were just alright. Thinking it was really for his best.
He once had ever wondered how his life would be if he’s not born in his family. If he was born in a rather normal family. Many of his friends in his 17 years of life had always told him on how lucky he was to be very rich. But they never knew that Hyukjae had always told secretly inside his mind how lucky they were for not being him.
He had always wondered how was it if he just broke his parents’ rules.
But he never did it though. He had always obeyed because he thought he loves them.
He had always been living according what had been arranged for him,
dying with the flow.
“I’m Donghae by the way. If it’s really important for you to know,”
Hyukjae wished he had never left the place that day. He wished he had spent more time with Donghae that day.
But that was what made him visit the rooftop the next day, and the next days. There wasn’t any single regret.
---
He was woken up from his mind when a familiar pair of arms were encircling him tightly. Hyukjae smiled, didn’t have any intention even a bit to free himself from the lock.
“Hae…” Hyukjae didn’t know why he called him but he just feel like doing it. He didn’t bother to open his eyes and enjoyed the feel of his husband’s breath hovering his neck.
“It’s a special day,” Donghae muttered, still placing his lips on the crook of Hyukjae’s neck, for the umpteenth time adoring his wife’s perfect jawline.
“I know,” Hyukjae said really softly, almost considered as a whisper, but it was adequate enough for Donghae to turn Hyukjae’s position so now he was facing him.
“We should celebrate,” Donghae said with a tint trail of smirk on his face. Hyukjae was a bit surprised when Donghae turned his body so suddenly but he was immediately flustered when seeing that expression from his husband.
In no time Donghae’s lips was only a centimeter away from Hyukjae’s and a moment later they were kissing. Donghae was the one that initiated it and Hyukjae’s immediately responded. It has been only 3 months after their marriage and burning passion was still hot in the air. In no time their kiss had become not just a simple kiss but a tense and sloppy one. Their hands started to roam at each other’s body, satisfied themselves with their desire.
Hyukjae started to push the both of them carefully inside his apartment and Donghae helped him pulled their connecting body in with a bigger force as the fire inside him had grown even more untamable. Donghae was about to kick the door connecting the apartment to the balcony shut when Hyukjae broke off the kiss.
Donghae couldn’t help but to groan at it.
“Oh it’s a butterfly,” Hyukjae said as he watched the said black tiny creature perched and kept stuck in their apartment’s wall. Hyukjae broke off the kiss earlier when he felt something sticking on his hair, and when he moved his head the creature flew inside and became visible for him.
“Oh yes it is Hyukjae,” Donghae spoke without really paying attention and grabbed the back of Hyukjae’s head and began to kiss him hard again.
“But why it keeps sticking on the wall?” Hyukjae for the second time broke off and asked, which itched the hell out of Donghae.
For a moment there was silence but then Donghae tilted his head in a sudden move searching for the said butterfly.
“Oh shit,” Donghae cursed under his breath. He cursed under two reasons. First, of what he thought that may happen to them with the presence of the butterfly. Second is what he thought that might happen to the thing that had grown untamable beneath his pants, if something in the first reason really happened.
“What?” Hyukjae asked with his curious eyes.
“Someone’s coming over,” Donghae’s sighed deeply thinking of how unlucky he was if his plan failed.
“Hmm? Who it might be?” Hyukjae asked still with the same curiosity. He was seriously asking and didn’t only wonder.
Donghae seeing that expression of his wife sighed. He had to answer no matter what. He had ever promised him that he would answer anything Hyukjae asked because between the two of them, Donghae knew much more trivia things compared to Hyukjae.
“Well, according to its color it might be family members.” Donghae paused to think for a while before continuing, “Maybe your parents?”
“What? It can’t be. They never came before and…” Hyukjae trailed off, didn’t manage to complete his sentence. He was imagining if his parents were really coming over.
“Well then just ignore it. It’s probably too windy outside for it to play so it decided to rest at our house,” Donghae taled randomly before neared his face to Hyukjae’s, ready to continue of what had been irritatingly cut earlier.
But luck really wasn’t on him that day.
“Wait… if it’s really my parents. We should tidy things up!” Hyukjae swiftly broke off from Donghae’s hold and began to run at the corner of the room and grabbed the newspapers that were lying on the floor.
For the first time since they met, Donghae was the one that was stunned.
A butterfly flies beside us like a sunbeam.
And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belongs to our world.
But then it flies again, and though we wish it could have stayed,
We feel so.
A/N: disappointed faces are cute :3
pmsl.
Well this is a late birthday gift for wifey
xuxuxi :3 Really, compared to your birthday gift to me wifey, this /disappointing/ thing is absolutely nothing :/
Well, for those who doesn't understand the story, I will do a bit of explanation here. So the story was written based on the quote appeared at the end of the story. Though I don't really understand it, I assumed the meaning myself (Consider me as weird and freakish because I am :X). So what I considered from the quote is when you wish for something you feel the same. So when Hyukjae wished that he could have stayed at their first meeting, he had already felt "it" well you know that feeling people feel (a hint of love maybe? xD). Well that's the main purpose of this story and the last part is only a bonus and don't expect me for saying anything from it because even when I write something so mild like that I was nervous as hell, lol.
Next Friday I'll be having my final exam (wish me luck on it! x) ) so this is probably will be my last fic before the exam week (Lol I'm being really a weird person here bcs in fact I don't really write /that/ much :b) but I will continue working something out that you'll probably like (well I'm /hoping/ that you guys will probably like it). Hint? A fantasy? And it might be posted after the exam week and before I went for a full hiatus for a month for my summer class.
Pardon me for my long note, btw I have only recovered my spazz account on twitter and there's still a few of people I can spazz together with. uhm well if you're kind enough talk to me at
@hyvkjae ^^
Have a lovely day ~
