I'm no Emeril ...

It doesn't take much to make me happy, honestly it doesn't. Over the course of the past week, suard has been asking me what my new year's resolutions are and my usual response has been that I don't have any. I have plenty of "epiphanal moments" during the course of the year that just because it happens to be January 1st doesn't mean I'm going to make any major overhauls.

However, I've been more acutely aware of my bank account recently and how much money I'm spending on food. So, last night, in an attempt to curb my habit of eating out for every meal, I bought pasta, meat and sauce and proceeded to make my own spaghetti and meat sauce. Now, it took longer than I'm usually going to give the whole food thing and I still hate cleaning up as much as I always have, but it was really nice to have something I cooked turn out the way I intended. Cooking less than I thought I'd need, I even had enough left over to save for lunch today.

Two meals for the price of one ... I kind of like that.

Which gets me to the point. Be it this 29th day of December, the 2005th year after some Jewish mother got the idea that her kid really was the center of the universe, I resolve to cook meals which I have prepared (or had a large part in preparing) at least twice weekly during all weeks in which I spend at least six nights in my apartment.

I can get behind this. Also, the spaghetti was good. Not as good as mom's, but good nonetheless.

new york, food, friends
