In a world where kids are fighting
to make a better life for themselves, tens of thousands are dead and
more are fighting just to survive in Pakistan and both soldiers and civilians are
dying to make a better Iraq, what I did tonight seems to pale in the grander scale. I feel kind of silly at this point saying anything about it, since in the grand scheme of things it was nothing special, but I will anyway.
I've been getting emails for
the New in Town New York City Meetup for close to a year now. I don't know if I technically count as new in town anymore but I figured since the guy who organizes it had been nice enough to keep me on the list for that long that it was worth going to check out. Plus, he said there was free food and cheap beer ... how do I lose?
I met a few interesting people but that really wasn't the point ... I think it's neat to see that I could walk into a room of 100 or so people without knowing anyone and manage to not only strike up a few conversations, but that I could also get a bunch of other people involved. See, not that exciting in grand scale stuff but seeing as five years ago I wouldn't be able to say hi to a stranger without four beers down, this is a nice "wow, look how far I've come" moment.
