The thunder roared and shook the ground as the lightning stroke for the nth times of the night, startling the bundle of infant for the second time of her much needed sleep. Rain poured onto the window as if it would smashed it opened in a rip.
Yerin wailed as she was startled awake by the booming and crashing thunders, hands immediately flailed in the mid-air, searching for her source of warmth that never failed to tuck her in every single night, forgoing another source of warmth that she barely met anymore.
Her small, chubby hand grasped a pinky finger, wrapping her eager mouth around the said finger in recognition as her body was shifted near the awaiting, warm chest, leaving no space in between them.
“Appa. Daddy. Wuv.” She mumbled.
Her wails reduced to whimpers and soft sobs as she buried her face at the crook of her daddy’s neck, heart calmed enough as soft snores emitted from her tiny form, tired out of her own tantrum, she didn’t even noticed the finger in her mouth slipped out slowly.
Jaejoong chuckled at his baby girl, hand patting light, comforting pats on Yerin’s back as he hummed to a tune that he once or twice listened to when he watched his noona tucked in her sons, years ago. A song that never failed to make his nephews succumbed to sleep.
The rain was still pouring down, but the storm seemed like it had calmed down as he heard of cars honking and dogs barking like the storm never happened to the metropolitan city of Seoul. He pulled his hand under Yerin’s bottom slowly, as the numbness attacked his muscle. He shifted the baby onto her own pillow as he turned to his side, facing the baby with his arm draped lightly on her sleeping figure.
His heart stopped beating for a second when the door to his room creaked open in the middle of the night, spotting a mop of black hair that belong to no one else but Yunho. He flicked the bedside lamp to guide the other man into the dark room, which before was solely illuminated by the lights of the city through the window. He spotted a huge bouquet of flowers behind Yunho’s back, so huge that even his lover’s back wouldn’t be able to hide the bouquet.
‘I’m not a woman.’
Jaejoong sighed softly when Yunho closed the door with a ‘click’, walking straight to the bed and left a light peck on his daughter’s forehead, who wrinkled her nose, clearly annoyed with the cold touch on her face but not waking up from her slumber. Stroking her baby’s hair, Yunho searched for Jaejoong’s cold eyes on him and he found none of those.
His lover for quite some years mouthed a silent ‘welcome home’ without his usual playful ‘baby’ at the end of the greeting. Yunho’s smile dropped when Jaejoong buried his face on their daughter’s soft locks, hiding away his obvious emotions written on his face like an open book, away from Yunho’s prying eyes.
Before Jaejoong drown into his own sleep, Yunho’s arms wrapped around his middle, his suits rustling noisily as the taller male laid himself behind his back, murmuring apologies. He definitely would have shooed Yunho away to change into something comfortable if his eyes weren’t drooping so insistently, his tired body protested as he tried to open his eyelids and he eventually lost to his inner battle as he succumbed to sleep.
‘I’m sorry I’m late again.’
Yunho tightened his hold around Jaejoong’s waist, murmuring more apologies and and love words on his lover’s wife-beater-cladded back, fatigue drained his murmurs into snores and soon he too fell asleep. The cars on the road were still loud, and dogs barking at suspicious strangers, all went unnoticed and unheard for the tired little family.
……..
“Happy 6th Anniversary, baby.” Yunho propped his chin on top on Jaejoong’s shoulder as the other man flipped his pancakes, ignoring his lover attempted to grovel for forgiveness, shrugging his shoulder and swiftly walked to his baby who was sitting on her high chair, wiping her chin full of honey and crumbs of pancake before turning off the stove as he placed the pancakes on Yunho’s plate. They ate in silent, no sounds were heard aside from Yerin’s excited gurgles as she stabbed her plastic fork viciously onto her pancakes.
“I was finishing my work so that I’ll be able to take a week off, Jae.” He pouted in hope his lover would show him some mercy.
“A text wouldn’t hurt, Yunho. I was worried.” He sighed, placing his fork down, his appetite left entirely.
Yunho’s face marred with a frown, feeling thoroughly guilty.
“I’m sorry.”
Jaejoong sighed and nodded in acknowledgement at the sincere apology. He couldn’t stay mad for long anyway.
Yunho leaned across the table and dropped a heavy peck on his boyfriend, ignoring Jaejoong’s muffled protest on his lips.
“Popo!” Yerin squeaked, hands balled into small fists and she smiled, eyes went into cresent shapes, successfully breaking off her appa and daddy with her excited squeal.
Yerin blabbered some gibberish, baby words as she opened her arms, demanding attention from her appa who sat across the table.
“Yerin-ah, I thought we agreed on this! Where is the silent-treatment we agreed on?” Jaejoong whined as his baby gurgled and giggled when his boyfriend twirled her body in the air, playing their own version of airplane.
“We are going to Saipan, Jae. Reservation has been made.” He grinned widely, letting her daughter wrapped her small arms around his neck and placing messy, wet kisses on his face.
“What make you think I agreed on this?”
Yunho paled, imagining tons of things and thousands of ₩on he had used in order to make the vacation happened.
“I was kidding, Yunho.” Jaejoong sighed.
Yunho stared into spaces, Yerin’s babbles and Jaejoong’s voice went into deaf ears.
“Yunho! I was just kidding! Gosh this man!”
Jaejoong grumbled under his breath, chair scraping on the marble floor as stood up and took Yerin with him, placing her back into her high chair before kicking Yunho’s shin, making the other man snapped out of his stupor, who jumped out of his seat in record time before hopping around in pain stupidly.
“Don’t joke around about that Jaejoong-ah!” he cried.
Yerin giggled when her appa tried to haul her off the chair, waving her small hands in front of her daddy’s face marred with an evident pout.
“Seriously, I think Yerin forever won’t betray you for me, but why did she always betrayed me for you?” Jaejoong whined childishly at Yunho’s disappearing figure who held their daughter close to his chest, away from the kitchen, sulking silently at Jaejoong’s previous joke.
