Damn this freaking hiatus and work and bleh (other life muckups), so I'm back now, and I mean business, and serious business. I disappeared a little from posting stuff on journals, just because of lifes other niggly issues, and I mean it's pretty crap that things have happened. I mean, this computer I'm using isn't technically mine, I'm borrowing it until I can afford enough to get one.
Life has been intersting to say the least, with a few minor hurdles along this bumpy ride. I actually have a job now, not a great one, but one that allows me to get some money during this period. I'm officially a kitchen hand at Chilliz - chicken and rice, i.e. quite low on the job scale, but that doesn't really matter. I don't dislike the job, just that my back is giving me a heap of trouble lately and I'm going crazy because of this. I mean I wish my back would stop being so painful. Oh well I think I might have sprained it a bit, but because I get some money at the end of the day, I ignore the pain. Another point to note, being tall in a small kitchen with stuff sticking out at shelving that just comes to about eye-level isn't all that fantastic. I've hit my head a fair few times and it's probably destroying my braincells, but not matter I have to carry on with my job.
As of yesterday morning at 9am to be exact, I got a call from Telstra saying I was successful so *jumps for joy* I mean I get more pay than what I'd be getting chopping chicken and packing chicken rice for 6 hours. It's taken a fair while for this to have occured, I mean saying that my resume got lost at one store and better still I handed it in two stores and it took about at least a month, I'm amazed at the result.
Now my turn to write an entry for GO3. I was a judge for the cosplay competition, and the power of KIRA is amazingly scary, so here is a recount of events leading upto the start of saturday GO3 and end Sunday.
Saturday 31st March 2007
This Saturday still amazes me as to how much can be done in a day. I woke up with a full load of things on my mind, first to go to a mid sememster examination, and second to Judge GO3. I had to pick the first because that was the first thing that was on my 'things to do'. So I head off from home. Left the house with just a bag, some foundation, and my book 'of course' I mean I take things seriously. I headed to the exam room with minutes to spare, 9am, the test begins, I write and write, and finish, way early, oh well I still have things to do. around 10:30pm, headed over to the Curtin Bus Station, from there got my way into the city, damn it was a long trip.
I was exhausted, but still I needed to get inside. I walked upto the line and who do I see? someone who I had not expected to turn up at the event due to various circumstances. The queue was quite long, and I waited in line like everyone else to purchase a ticket, but to my amazement I don't think I acutally needed one, so I managed to get pulled into the venue, with Eugene running wild. Judges get in free, and there's more to come on day two. I went to the Jafwa/Panic booth at Go3 and I met a fair bunch of the Panic Crew, Hew, Trina, Gav, and a fair few others, and I mean I had to of course meet my fellow judge Mirai. I hung around the booth and saw a lot more of the cosplayers, in fact 2 Zelda Links just made the day worth it. I was in cosplay as well, well those who attened Wai-Con 2006 should recognise my character, and so I get my rep from that.
*jump to cosplay event* [grumble grumble]
We called the cosplayers over to the back stage, it was a fantastic idea, maybe about half an hour early and but still should have been enough time for them to compose themselves as well as to get our AV and judges ready for the competition. Guess what? okay I tell you the event started a little too early, no thanks to the head MC of GO3. worst still the judges weren't ready for this early start. So I'm stuck infront alone, as my fellow judge was somwhere *have no idea* and Eugene going ape about this sudden change in event. but the show must go on. Judging over, and the judges had little time to decide the winners of Day 1 cosplay.
Sunday 1st April 2007 (April Fools)
Pissed as all hell from day 1 we were ready to kill someone if the event started early again. *chill chill* I mean I was so tempted to write the name down in my book, but I guess it wouldn't suffice. Okay Day 2 starts without much of hitch, I met the main organiser David Kazim. I mean I didn't have a pass and I was a judge, but they nearly didn't let me through. I used some persuasion, and it seemed to work, I was able to talk my way into having me being able to walk in and out of the venue without a pass and even better still walk with an apple and my death note book and and have no tags either. I feel so proud. N ext thing, Mirai and I had to calculate our scores for day 1 and had to work out the scores for day one, this is primarily because of the main prize. The second thing is that the compeition was so good infact there was lillte to differentiate between. We had to review the tapes of the first day to make sure of our decisions. Kazim was supposed to give us a 3rd judge, a guest, that never eventuated, so back to the task at hand working the judging of the cosplay competition.
Again we got screwed around with the times, first they say they were running a half hour late, then they sped up everything so everything ran on time. No the cosplayers were not all at the stage at the time allocated, this is because of the the primary reason, half hour delay, so everyone was meant to be at the stage 1/2 hour later than planned. We dictated the terms this time and made sure that GO3 didn't stuff us around. I mean we were doing our job, Judges can't judge if they aren't there, Cosplayers can't go up on stage when they arent's even there, so I mean we did do what we could to make sure the event ran smoothly.
Juddging was tough, and no the judging will not be released upon request as some of you may have already asked. The judges rule is final.
The day ran in 2 parts, first the 2nd coplay, then the final main prize. So time had come to make a decision, and Mirai and I threw everything on the table, inluding reviewing the comp. So we handed our verdict when the time came. This is as much as a judge can do.
edit: * The expression on Kazims' face tells much of a story*
----- GO3 end ---
A big big thank you to everyone who participated in the event, even though you didn't win doesn't mean that you don't deserve a mention, all the cotumes were amazing, we loved it all, and I'm sure the audience was in awe by the amount of hard work put in. Thank you, Thank You.
So this is the end of my report, it could have been better, but then again, I'm still half awake to do this task.
