So at some point rather late in the evening, while he's poking at it, residents of 1486 Kramden Road (and possibly the surrounding houses) will be treated to horrible shrieks of surprise and the complete explosion of the kitchen. [After hearing the noise, Hermione had entered the kitchen with the book claimed from the library in hand. She was startled sure, but with the pursed frown quickly backed out...]

[Minutes later returning with more hot, wet rags. And, yes, she's going to help you.]

[It takes him a few beats to realize what she's doing.]

H-hey, Hermione, you don't have to... my mess t' clean up.

Nonsense. We all live her together, don't we? It's only right to, er, help each other out. At least.

I guess. Just seems like, when a man blows up a turkey, he gets t' clean up all the spider guts.

[That comment? Comes out totally naturally, as if it's happened before or is some commonly used metaphor.] ...thanks, though.

[There's the smallest bit of a sympathetic smile.] It's not a problem, you know.

There could be a lot worse messes to get up. [A pause looking around.] Do you suspect you got all of them? I don't think it'd be very good if one was lurking around the house... At the very least we should keep an eye out, just in case.

...thanks, Hermione. [And that's completely genuine expression of gratitude.

It's quickly a less sure expression as he glances around the room.] They were pretty big and nasty. Doubt they'd be much good at sneaking up, if I missed any.

You're welcome. [ And there's the small smile framed on her face, too.]

I suppose that's true, from the looks of things. Hopefully if one's around it'll be caught in time--Honestly, it's good Ron's not here.

[You are already better than drone-mom, Hermione. By about a million. And ten thousand worlds better than real mom. Have some childish, unconditional love in that smile.]

Nn, a friend from home?

[Just wait until she starts to get onto you about homework. Good thing about it is as long as you try she does help out. ]

[Ah, and you probably weren't supposed to hear that as she pauses. There may be a faint redness in the cheeks there, incredibly faint.]

Oh. Yes, he's absolutely petrified of spiders in any sort. A bit silly sometimes, actually.

[Oh ho ho. He knows that look, actually. But he'll gently move around it.]

Eh, they're pretty freaky. Especially these ones. Too bad about missing this whole... Thanksgiving thing, though.

[You saw nothing. And her next response won't continue, but it's a firm, knowing response.] There are worse spiders, though, and things. Honestly.

We didn't have Thanksgiving in England, so it's nothing to miss. Did you have it at home?

[There's a split second of looking lost--Ren knows exactly the sort of thing she's talking about. Then the smile comes back and he shrugs slightly as he continues to clean.]

At home? Naw. It's an American thing, right? Guess you guys and these guys aren't on the best terms since that whole leaving the empire thing.
