THE THREE OF WANDS STAND FOR AN EPIC JOURNEY

See title. I've been getting into the habit of picking a tarot card every morning, and that's what I got. My handy book says it means expanding horizons and whatnot, which I think actually works for today. Because on this day...

I SAW MY FIRST MUSICAL IN AN ACTUAL BROADWAY THEATER

Phantom of the Opera. I'M ORIGINAL LULZ but seriously, I knew I had to see it eventually if I wanted to call myself a fan of musicals, so I begged my mother until we had Front Mezzanine seats. Bad idea really, I thought the Front Mezzanine would be like balcony seats at the ballet, but we couldn't even see the Phantom make his masquerade entrance. Oh well, we could see most of everything else, I was just seeing double because I really need to start wearing glasses. Next time we're getting Orchestra seats. So the chandelier can fall on me. Yaaaay.

But yeah, besides not being able to see the Phantom descend the stairs of doom, I couldn't understand a word they were saying. Seriously. NOBODY ENUNCIATED. Except the Phantom, but I swear he had some kind of speech impediment. He hisssssed or buzzzzzzed on every consonant. Or maybe it was the microphone, but either way, it got REALLY ANNOYING after a while. To top that, I think we were near the air conditioner, so half the show I heard this "fffffsssssssssss" in my ear. Argh.

As for the rest of the show?
I can honestly respond with a strong
Wholehearted
Honest
Meh.

Yes, meh. I MEH AT YOU, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. The story was nice, sure, the effects were freaking cool, the set changes were incredible, but on the whole? Meh. The music was really repetitive, and I don't mean with cute little leitmotifs that repeat themselves every now and then. I mean the songs all sounded the same. And none of them were OMGAMAZING, except maybe Music of the Night. Oh and the overture. fgsfdsgskdfjksl the overture. Good stuff. But yeah, I can see how it could become popular, but run for fifteen years? That's a bit hard to believe. Weird stuff.

So yeah, I liked it, it just won't be on my top ten after I see a hundred musicals.
But still. First Broadway show. This could be the beginning of a beautiful (and expensive) love.

rant, broadway, someone shut me up
