Maths is still useful

Obligatory procrastination post.

You know there's something wrong when you start thinking like this. Behold the mathematics of prcrastination!!!

On Wednesday, while silently going insane on the bus to uni to hand in Video Design project that was due in when I left my house -_- (really, really sorry to drag you down with me Mark. Don't ever rely on me ever again. FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. SERIOUSLY. It'd benefit everyone else to take heed of this too.) - Damn. Damn. Damn. Ok, so we got a pass for our first assignment worth 20% and a credit for our second which was 40%. Assuming we got the worst marks possible to be safe. 50% of 20 is 10% of our final mark. 65% of 40 is 26% of our final mark. So far we have at least 36% overall, we need 50% minimum so that's an extra 14% we need from this assignment. That's...what, 35% for our third assignment (since its worth 40%)? So since I'm late we've already lost 10%, need a bare minimum of "barely fail"-quality project to pass overall. Our assignment should be at least worth a pass without the lost 10% so I'm pretty sure we can pass overall. Relief.

Ok, now for Production Design. We've completed about 60% of the marks already in our previous projects, and I've received a couple of credits and a few distinctions so far. Again to be safe, let's say that averages out to the minimum credit mark. 65% of 60 is 39% of the overall mark. I need at least 11% more. Hmmm...two more assignments due in, one worth 10%, the other worth 30%. Now Ro doesn't accept late assignments so that's out. I can totally skip the first one and use that time to work on the tuesday assignment, since that's worth 60%. Then after that all I can hand in a "decent fail"-quality for the second one and still pass overall (what % of 30 = 11...36.6%). Alternatively, what mark do I need to pass without handing in the second? What % of 70 = 50? About 71%. So that's a mid credit (halfway between credit and distinction). I could do a "good credit"-quality job of the first assignment, which should give me enough leeway so that pretty much anything I hand in for the second will get me a pass overall. Hmmm...think the safest plan of action is to a decent job of both, just make sure they're in on time. Even fails for the next two assignments will get me a pass for the subject, so handing in an unfinished assignment is fine.

Concepts of Professionalism. Ooooh boy, two assignments each worth 30% due on the same day and I think I've been scraping passes in the previous two assignments. If I hand them in late I think that means I lose 10% off each assignment, but that still turns out being 10% off 60 right? So I should be looking at this like a 60% assignment. Crap, since I'm scraping passes, I actually need to do a decent job of this AND hand it in on time, no way around it. Looks like this should be first priority over the 10% Production Design one.

Plan of action - Get the 10% Production Design done as quickly as possible (since I can pass this subject pretty easily), just to give me a bit of a safety net for 30% assignment, then focus all energy on the Professionalism. Finish Production tonight. Work like crazy all of tomorrow on the first Professionalism assignment (getting as little sleep as possible). Then finish off the second on Monday arvo after handing in Production Design (gonna be an all-nighter again). Production should be fine overall, but I'm walking a fine line with Professionalism.

And that ends today's lesson on how to get by by doing the bare minimum! Remember kids, you DO NOT want to be a Eugene. If you start thinking like this something has gone very, very wrong.

...I should be working, eh...
