In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. --
John 1:1-4 (NIV 1984)
In other words, once upon a time, the Author of all Creation, the Ruler of Time and Eternity, the Father of Humanity and Knowledge [God] broke off a part of himself (however it is that you break off a part of something without end), bore a child if you will, and humbled himself to becoming one of his creations. Not just any of his creations, he did not become a king or mighty warrior or a fearsome general, but instead became a squalling baby with limited motor functions born to a poor carpenter and his wife.
He did this, to connect with his creation, to minimize his majesty in a way (so that it would not overwhelm them) and lead his children back home. He translated himself into a form they would understand and lived among them so that they would know that he understood their pain.
He was called, is still called,
Emmanuel or "God With Us," because that is what he is. The force, the power, the love (
God is love, darlings, never forget this) the deity responsible for every atom and every molecule reaction, clothed himself in flesh, walked on land, ate bread and fish, drank wine, lowered himself to a mortal level to demonstrate his love for a people, a creation, a children who did not love him because he was faithful and loved his children more than they could ever dream of knowing.
The Immortal became mortal for the sake of loving humanity.
How cool is that? :-)
P.S. This is only
the start of the story...
