Me and Rob got a kitty about 2 weeks ago. We were standing outside having a cigarette, and Rob was on the phone. This adorable black kitty walked by the drive way. I pointed him out to Rob and he called the kitty over. He came and he was so adorable and affectionate. I had to give him some food...he was so cute. After feeding him there was no doubt that we both wanted this cat. So we brought him in and gave him a flea bath. Which caused him to hide for a while. We went to the store to buy some cat things and by the time we had come back he was done with hiding. We noticed the bath didn't take care of the fleas though so we went and bought some spray. Before spraying him I was sitting with him and just saying some names to him...seeing if he responded to anything. I said Jique (G-K) and he twitched his ears. He did it the second and third times as well. So Jique is his name. It's the name of a Brazilian Girls song. The spray did work, but caused him to go into hiding until we took him to the vet the next day.
At the vet they told us that he had a chip in him, which meant he had an owner. We left sad and disappointed. Then at 8:30 I got a message on my phone that was left at 6:30. They said they made a mistake and he really didn't have a chip...and we could come pick him up at 8 before they closed. The next day I picked him up with Lisa because Rob was at work. He was healthy except for worms which we got pills for.
So now he's been with us for almost two weeks. You can no longer feel his rib cage when you pet him, and his fur looks so much better. I'm pretty sure his last owners were abusive because whenever I yell no at him for doing something wrong he tries to hide underneath something. He has realized that I'm not going to abuse him though and usually come right out now. He's so sweet though, and does pretty much what you want him too. I'm really surprised that someone would just throw him out, but maybe he just ran away from that home because he didn't like them. He has never tried to even go near the door to get outside. He just sits in our living room most the time. He doesn't seem like he even wants to go outside.
