It seems that if one wants somethign done right, one must do it oneself

For the last 6 months or so I've been involved in a test based roleplay so as to satisfy the muses and expand my horizons. Well, I've managed to make some new friends, but the muses are far from sated. I know I'm not one to talk, but I'm fed up with the railroading, I want to feel like the inclusion of my character actually matters to the ( Read more... )

Hmmmmmm.... intriguing. What medium are you planning to run this through? Messageboard-style forum posts? Chatroom? Play-by-email? If you haven't really decided on that yet, I have some fantastic recommendations. As you may or may not know, I'm an established fixture over at the Paizo messageboards and they have a section squared off for play-by-post messageboard games. Hell, I'm even running one right now. If you're looking for something more chatroom-based and want the ability to incorporate maps and whatnot, I highly recommend TTopRPG a program created by another messageboard regular that is utterly amazing and, best of all, FREE.

I'm reluctant to use the paizo messageboards only because of the group of people I have involved already. I don't want it to be a D&D game, despite as much as it might look like it. I want it to be more of an interactive story where everyone will be allowed to bring their own creative additions, the mechanics system I wouldn't even include because of the amount of background reading involved, but at the same time I don't want conflict to be unmanageable. I want the skills and flaws of the characters to stand out, and much the easiest way to do that is with mechanics ( ... )

Interesting. Well, I'm glad I could provide some assistance and I hope everything goes well. I'll certainly take a look at things as you progress and hope you'll provide some means to stay updated (whether it be through LJ, Facebook, or whatever). I can't say whether or not I'd be willing to commit to something at this point, though, as it sounds like it's still a work in progress. Once you've begun to "nail things down," as it were, I'll take it under consideration.

Also, be sure to stop by the Paizo chatroom some time. I operate under the handle of 'Fatespinner' and TTop's programmer goes by the name of 'Pygon.' He'll be able to answer pretty much any questions you have about using it. He's a cool guy, as are pretty much all the people that frequent the room.
