I greatly enjoyed the movie, mainly by not paying attention to how bad the dialog was and linking up story elements and thinking on greater ramifacations into the Star Wars world. But then, as I gamer, I find great amusement in the exploration of made-up worlds and their implications.
Now, as to the 'New', I have heard the arguments 'nothing new under the sun' and 'it's all been done before' and the like. I guess I have chosen to accept these statements as workably true, and so have decided to do a thing not based on whether or not it's 'New', but on how the things makes me feel and whether or not I want to experience those feelings.
That is why I read books over ond over, why I have seen episodes IV through VI at least fifty times. I enjoy the feelings they provoke: the Hope and adventure of IV, the Agony of Tough Choices and Loss of V, and the Affirmation of VI.
As for whether or not Lucas should have stopped at Episode IV, I'm glad he didn't as the rest of the series while perhaps not as good did make the window into that world a little bigger, and perhaps a little clearer.
