So I'm listening to the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio plays, and in many ways they remind me of Cabin Pressure (which is of course backwards, chronologically), and it occurred to me to wonder if John Finnemore named Douglas Richardson after Douglas Adams and Arthur Knapp-Shappey after Arthur Dent.
But now I feel silly because I just realized that of course both Martin and Douglas are named after well-known aircraft manufacturers. According to Wikipedia, the plane they fly is a "fictional Lockheed McDonnell 312"... clearly a blend of Lockheed Martin and McDonnell Douglas.
