Why is it that jobs involving lasers are the worst jobs around? You'd think that any job involving a laser would automatically rock. Not only that, though; the cooler the job sounds when described in terms of the laser, the worse the job actually is. It's completely contrary to common sense.
For instance: a few years ago, I worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart. I ran items across a scanning laser, but it was still an awful job. Management locked us in longer than they were legally allowed to do so; customers treated us like crap; use of the phrase "human dignity" was met with blank stares. In short, I hated it.
Now I work at UPS. I have a laser strapped to my freakin' hand. It should rock, right? No, it doesn't. I have to chuck heavy boxes into the back of a truck at a sustained pace (fast) for four hours every night. I don't necessarily mind the noise, but the heat is a killer, and I come home every night feeling like I was placed in a burlap sack and beaten with bags of pennies.
I'm actually envious of
this woman.
