School, Missouri, and Teslacon

So, school is a giant pain. I am behind on my classwork thanks to being sick last week. I still need to get my assignment done for today's Biopsychology class. Then I have to get two assignments done for tomorrow's Psycho. Child class. I can't do them tomorrow because I have to spend all day doing progress monitoring for my Assessment class. Yikes, sounds like school is weighing you down... I believe I actually took a class on child developmental psychology once in undergrad, I only took it because it gave me upper division credits which I needed to graduate, I vaguely remember the name Piaget~

Hope things work out for you, what's teslacon?

Yeah, school is intense. My program is particularly bad because it's grad level and every semester is at least 3 credits over what is considered full time. Plus, there are tons of classes in the summer (I took 12 credits this summer, and the only reason it didn't totally kill me was because 6 of them were during my China tour)!

TeslaCon is a full immersion steampunk convention. This year we will be taking a submersible dirgible underwater from London to Cairo, and then on to China. We then fly from China to London. The whole thing is super authentic. The con rents an entire hotel, redecorates it, and even convinced the hotel restaurants to only serve authentic Victorian-era food! I'm very excited!

The con sounds cool, how come it's called Tesla if it's steampunk? As Tesla was an electrical engineer...

honestly, I find that really strange. Steampunk is about stuff operated by steam, not electricity. Nikola (with a k) Tesla was one of the big researchers in electromagnetism...

I think it's because Tesla was really unacknowledged during his lifetime, and because he came up with all kinds of crazy ideas and inventions. The spirit of discovery and of pushing boundaries is a big part of the steampunk scene, and he really embodies that spirit.
