In late summer I was having no problems getting back and forth to the new job. Travel times on the way there were 20 minutes or so, on the way home closer to 30 or 35. Well, it's still just as easy to get there, but the way home has gotten much slower. I personally blame it on the carpool lane. For some reason there is only one carpool lane in the entire Portland area and it's on my way home. It reduces the freeway from three lanes to two and creates a huge bottleneck. Once it ends the traffic is still tight for about another mile, but not nearly as slow as during the bottleneck.

Anyway, I tried taking a different route home today. I don't think the freeway traffic was bad, but this way should be pretty consistent. It involves paralleling the freeway from just before the bottleneck until just about where it ends. It worked pretty well and only took me about 35 minutes to 40 minutes to get home. On Monday I think I'll try paralleling on the other side of the freeway because I think there's less stoplights there.

More work tomorrow on the basement. I actually found myself kind of excited about it today at work. It's the point where things are moving along rather swiftly, and it feels good to see some accomplishment on such a big project. I've got windows ordered and a plumber coming tomorrow to bid out the bathroom portion of it. We should be framing in more walls as well. Hopefully we'll get the last of the rooms framed in this weekend. If we get to that point, then the electrician can do his work.

I'll be happy when it's over!
