I have finally gotten around to watching Samurai Champloo. It's probably a little sad, but my first thought after finishing the series was "now I can finally read all those Mugen/Jin fics of redex's and actually get them". Such is the life of a fandom brat, I suppose. The series itself was extremely awesome though, as I'm sure everyone but me already

This is beautiful and haunting, I love how you've interwoven the scenes with a younger Sam's musings on the children's story. The way you've drawn the comparisons is just compelling and I really love how you highlight all the other possible ways for that final scene between Vic and Sam to play out.

Realising we can't fix everything is one of those things we all go through as we grow up, and I find it tremendously fun to torment characters with their own helplessness. Glad you liked!

This is such a great concept and it's told in an utterly fantastic way. I love the use of the folklore analogies you've drawn out here and the quick flickering between all these alternate worlds and ways that ending could have gone between them. Simply, beautifully done.

Thanks, I'm pleased you think it worked well in the context of the episode. I always find that particular scene to have a bit of a surreal aspect to it (as numerous scenes throughout the series do) so it was fun to just take that and run with it.

And yes, it's quite pathetic, but I really was thinking of being able to read your Mugen/Jin stuff when I finished the series. I've read some of it before, I'm quite sure, but it's always better when you know the canon.
