Yay random fic ideas popping into my head! Also: first Naruto fic hurrah.
Two Years in Memory
(Gaara/Naruto)
It's been more than two years now, and Gaara has not forgotten.
More than two years since his life was turned upside down, his solitary existence torn from his grasp and replaced with a chance for something better, a future he could choose for himself.
More than two years since fierce blue eyes dismissed his life's purpose out of hand, forced him to look, really look at himself and his own meaning, and told him from experience that it didn't have to always be the same.
Gaara has not forgotten.
He is no longer alone, not in the way he once was. Instead of feared and shunned he is admired; people look to him for guidance where once they would not even meet his eyes. And there is Temari, and Kankuro, and the sort of family he never thought he could afford to have, not since that night.
Gaara is no longer alone, but he is still lonely, though in a whole new way. Because his position brings respect, but also isolation, sets him above and apart from others whether or not he wishes it. They turn to him for leadership, depend on his strength, and he cannot fail them. Even his siblings look at him as Kazekage, when they had only just begun to see him as brother. People no longer dread him, but they hold him in awe, and that is almost as bad.
There was one, only one, who understood the pain of being hated, feared, reviled, and while he might not understand this new isolation, he most certainly wouldn't share in the awe. Would laugh, probably, and demand to know who the hell put Gaara in charge, and offer to wipe the floor with him all over again.
Except it's been more than two years, and word from Konoha has him still wandering, training with the sennin, and who knows how he might be changed when he returns. Who knows, and who knows when, if, their paths might cross again so Gaara can see how different he is. The eyes will not have changed though, Gaara's sure. They could not have.
It's already been more than two years, but last night there was a fox in the desert of Gaara's dreams.
He couldn't forget if he tried.

Also, Maroon 5. Was fairly indifferent to them when I first heard them, but I've been hearing them on the radio an awful lot lately, and the more I hear the more they grow on me. I'm thinking of investing in some of their stuff; anyone able/willing to advise?
