Butterfly by Jason Mraz.
Quinn had entered through the doors, the only one in the choir room besides the various musicians and Rachel and Finn. Her eyes flickered to them as she saw them being a cute and couple-y with each other. She took a deep breath and looked away as she pushed her glasses up. Rachel eyed Quinn and noticed the flash of color on her wrist. She had peeked at the tattoo in their English Literature class. The blond was close enough. She couldn't make out exact what it was, but it resembled a flower. Rachel was sitting close to Finn near the edge of the first row and so Quinn passed by them to climb up to the row behind. When she moved to push up her glasses, Finn caught sight of the tattoo.
"Hey, when did you get a tattoo?" He asked, his eyes following the blond.
She stared at him suspiciously and Rachel turned her head to hear her response. Quinn glanced at the brunette than back at Finn. An uncomfortable silence settled in as hazel eyes darted from one person to the other.
"What?" She eventually said with a tilt of her head, her face displaying her confusion.
Rachel and Finn just turned around and Quinn set herself herself directly behind them. The sight of those two brought more sadness and just overall depressing feelings to Quinn than watching Zizes and Puck. Something about Rachel and Finn made her feel more alone than ever. And Quinn really didn't need those feelings in her head at the moment. Her father had officially pulled the plug on group therapy and now they went to family therapy. Weekly. Quinn hated it. As if on cue, more Glee members trickled in, surprisingly all with their significant other. Except for Santana and Kurt, but they still bonded for their gayness. It made Quinn a little jealous to see them, but she felt that she deserved feeling alone. She hurt everyone who cared about her. Quinn sighed and looked down. Mercedes sat in the seat next to her. The two were pretty close, but they hadn't talked much after Quinn gave birth to Beth, but the blond was glad she seemed happy with Sam. Quinn looked up to see Santana messing with Kurt's hair, while Rachel giggled at the sight of the well groomed boy trying to fight of the cheerleader's hands. Finn leaned over and attempted to join in. Well, aren't you all just one big happy family? Quinn rolled her eyes, annoyed by every one and every thing.
"Sorry for being late, guys," Mr. Schue saod as he walked into the choir room. "I was talking to your newest member of Glee."
Quinn heard everyone's murmuring, but didn't bother to look up. She groaned inwardly. Great, another member that'll just alienate himself from me. She crossed her arms and shut her eyes as she threw her head back.
"Hi, I'm Marissa Foster," Quinn's head whipped up so fast, Mercedes glanced at the blond, confused and concerned. "I just transferred from Crawford Country Day."
Marissa had a smile on her face as her grey eyes scanned the choir room, but they never fell on Quinn. They both knew they wouldn't be able to control their laughter and smiles. Quinn could hardly contain her grin and couldn't stay still in her seat, bringing another look from Mercedes.
"Are you going to try out?" Kurt asked, eager to hear if should be competition for solos that year.
"Well, I spoke to Mr. Schuester and he said I was already in the club but -"
This caused an uproar in the group, asking why their director had made a decision without them. Marissa frowned and furrowed her eyebrows, surprised at their reactions. Quinn told her that they were well-behaved most of the time. Her eyes found Quinn, who was resting her chin in her hand. The blond gave a reassuring thumbs up and smile to her friend. Marissa grinned. But the arguments kept floating around.
"I can sing," the thespian attempted to get their attention. "Honest!"
Quinn's smile faded. She was tired of the Glee members. She exhaled a sharp breath.
"Hey!" Mr. Schue yelled. "We've had this discussion before. I thought you'd guys be more welcoming."
"How do we know she is not a spy from Crawford?" Suspicious Santana was suspicious.
"Oh," Marissa said waving a hand at the cheerleader and laughing, "I wasn't in the choir." The redhead then placed her hand on her chest. "I was in the theater department."
"We all know what that means," Santana muttered loudly.
Quinn glared at the back of the cheerleader's head.
"Marissa, if you're ready, you may begin."
The thespian gave Mr. Schuester a smile and Quinn grinned. She moved toward the mic stand. The blond had to admit, she was excited to hear which song her friend had chosen. Marissa stomped her foot right as the jazz band started. She then moved her head side to side with ever burst of saxophone, her red hair flaming about, something she had obviously learned from Emily. Quinn snorted as Marissa started to caress the stand.
I'm taking a moment just imagining that I'm dancing with you
I'm your pole and all you're wearing is your shoes
You got soul, you know what to do to turn me on
'Until I write a song about you
Quinn let out a goofy chuckle, never having seen the younger girl act that way. Marissa pulled the mic out and took a step forward, swaying her hips in rhythm.
And you have your own engaging style
And you've got the knack to vivify
And you make my slacks a little tight
Marissa set her hand slowly on her crotch which earned a cheer from the guys (and Santana). Quinn's eyebrows shot up as pelvic thrusts moved with each blast of the saxophone note.
You may unfasten them if you like
That's if you crash and spend the night
Marissa flipped her curls over her shoulder and walked to her right, pointing as some of the members in Glee.
But you don't fold, you don't fade
You got everything you need, especially me
Sister you've got it all
You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all
Quinn admitted that she was jealous for not being pointed at, but her eyes widened as Marissa's focus went to a giddy Santana.
Curl your upper lip up and let me look around
Marissa, slowly pulled the cheerleader up, her voice turning more seductive.
Ride your tongue along your bottom lip and bite down.
She twirled Santana so the cheerleader ended up with her back toward the redhead. Marissa placed a hand on the brunette's lower back.
And bend your back and ask those hips if I can touch.
Marissa eyed the cheerleader bending forward with hooded eyes as her hand glided to slender hips. Quinn smiled at her friend getting into character.
Cause they're the perfect jumping off point
Marissa gave Santana's ass a slight tap before walking away.
Getting closer to your butterfly
Well you float on by
Oh kiss me with your eyelashes tonight
The redhead leaned forward to Rachel
Or Eskimo your nose real close to mine
She then stood up straight and gave a signal to one of the musicians and the lights in the room started to dim. Was that feature always available?
And let's mood the lights and finally make it right
With a wink she looked back at the audience and sang the chorus again. She took a couple steps back and her eyes completely passed by Quinn, but the blond didn't miss the smirk. Marissa started to move back toward Rachel, squatting as she ended front of the brunette
Doll, I need to see you pull your knee socks up
Let me feel you up side, down slide, in slide, out slide, over here
Marissa ended on her knees and Quinn didn't need to see Rachel's face to know she was blushing. She had decided to wear knee socks that day.
Climb into my mouth now, child.
With a bit of her lip, Marissa stood back up and started to scat as her hips and hair moved side to side. Quinn was grinning now, unconsciously sliding her chair closer. Mercedes glanced at the blond. However, the blond caught sight of Finn pulling Rachel closer as he set his arm around her. Ugh.
Butterfly, you landed on my mind
Dammit you landed in my ear and then you crawled inside
Now I see you perfectly behind closed eyes
I wanna fly with you, and I don't want to lie to you.
Cause I can't recall a better day
Sun coming to shine on the occasion
You're an open-minded lady, you've got it all
And I never forget a face, 'cept maybe my own
I have my days, let's face the fact here
It's you who's got it all
Marissa walked to the stand and set the mic back.
You know that fortune favors the brave
But let me get paid while I make you breakfast
The rest is up to you, you make the call
You make the call to make my day
In your message say my name
Your talk is all the talk, sister you've got it all
The redhead started clapping, trying to get the other members to follow. Quinn picked up on it immediately. Marissa stepped away from the stand, glancing at the audience. She then pointed to the blond.
I can't recall a better day
Sun coming to shine on the occasion
Hey sophisticated lady, oh you've got it all
Quinn's eyes looked around and she only saw Santana turning to stare. The blond's smile faded and Marissa dropped her finger and sang back into the mic.
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all
You've got it all, you've got it all, you've got it all
Butterfly, baby, you've got it all
The whole club cheered as the song ended and Quinn politely clapped at the performance. She didn't appreciate the finger pointing. And the smirk on Marissa's face didn't add any positive feelings toward the redhead. Marissa glanced at Quinn with a cocky quirk of her eyebrow then turned back to the audience and bowed. The blond gave a pursed smile and gave her friend a nod as she skipped to the seat beside Quinn, not bothered to be sitting on the floor. She gave the older girl a nudge with her elbow. Quinn hit her back and the two stifled their laugh. Rachel turned around but the blond didn't notice. The singer couldn't help but smile at Quinn's attempt to hide her smile. She was glad Quinn was laughing again. However, when Marissa reached over to tug on the blond hair, Rachel's eyebrows furrowed. Did they know each other already? Mr. Schue asked if anyone had a song recommendation and Rachel faced forward to speak up, missing Quinn turning to Marissa as the two grinned at each other. Santana didn't miss the exchange.
