Summary: College students Junmyeon and Minseok move in together, but things aren’t quite as they’d imagined.
Word Count: ~1.5k
A/N: I’m so sorry this doesn’t even meet the minimum word count; I tried really hard to make it as close as possible. If I had more time I’d give you a better fic. I kinda like how this turned out, I hope you like it.
The title doesn’t really have any meaning other than it’s a song by Twenty One Pilots.
When they decided that moving in together was the most financially secure and logical option for both of them, Minseok’s first thought was that it was a great idea. He loves Junmyeon and he knows him well enough to be assured this will be a good thing for them and their relationship.
Moving in isn’t as effortless as they’d hope it would be. Chanyeol bails on them last minute and they’re stuck with a whiny Tao and Sehun who doesn’t want to carry anything heavier than a box. Tao insists on taking breaks every 45 minutes. “To stay hydrated!” He insists. Moving day is a lot longer than anyone had anticipated.

Their apartment is a small two bedroom that’s just two minutes from the bakery Minseok works at and 10 minutes from campus. Being an education major requires Junmyeon to hold an internship, so they chose a location central to several daycares and an elementary school.
Math major Minseok is normally a quiet guy, preferring to keep his thoughts to himself. But with Junmyeon around he’s always got something to talk about. There’s something about the aspiring teacher that makes Minseok want to share every interesting thought that flits through his head. There’s a sense of security Junmyeon exudes that lets his boyfriend know he’ll never be judged for speaking his mind. Minseok knows this is something Junmyeon’s future students will appreciate. There’s no doubt he’ll be a favorite amongst students.
Both of them have strenuous majors that often leave them too exhausted to even go on proper dates. Because of this, they’ve only spent a handful of nights together. All of these nights usually lead to one of them rushing off to their own dorm before an early morning class or work. They don’t really have any expectations of what spending everyday together will be like.

When Minseok wakes up in the morning, its with his face pressed into Junmyeon’s back and an arm thrown over his waist. He snuggles a little closer until he feels pressure on his bladder and pulls himself from the sheets and his still sleeping boyfriend.
He makes his way to the kitchen for coffee. A glance at the clock on the counter tells him it’s 8:30. He tries to move around quietly so he won’t wake the other but it’s hard when they haven’t even unpacked everything yet.
Eggs frying on the stove lend the perfect background to Minseok, cheerfully humming his favorite song as he drops two slices of bread into their new toaster. He doesn’t hear feet padding down the hall until a bitter “can you shut up” is thrown his way. His eyes widen as he whips around to face Junmyeon. The small man is still wrapped in their comforter and his face is pinched into an expression of clear annoyance.
“I’m making breakfast!” Ever enthusiastic, Minseok gives the other a lopsided grin. “Do you want coffee or juice? Oh, and we have yogurt. Do you want yogurt?”
The scowl on Junmyeon’s face doesn’t waver. “Do you have to talk so much?”
Minseok recoils at this. “Jun…”
Junmyeon shuffles back into the bedroom and slams the door shut. Minseok knows he’s gotten back in bed when he hears the springs squeaking.
There’s a plate of eggs and toast sitting on the table waiting for Junmyeon when he finally drags himself out the bedroom. The food has been sitting long enough to go cold. the stark silence throughout the apartment that makes it feel bigger than it really is.
The few dishes that they own are washed and put away neatly in the cabinets. A peek around the apartment reveals Minseok has unpacked a lot and attempted to clean the place up a bit. Junmyeon doesn’t know where Minseok would be at 10 am on a Sunday when he doesn’t have to work.
He finishes his food with no sign of Minseok’s return. He washes his plate before putting it away where he finds the rest of the plates. A warm shower and food puts him in a much better mood then he’d been the first time he woke up.
Junmyeon is sifting through a box of his clothes when he hears the front door swing shut.
“Junmyeon?”
Minseok is in the kitchen putting groceries in the fridge when Junmyeon comes to frown at him.
“Why’d you go shopping without me? I thought we were gonna do that together.”
Minseok doesn’t tell him the pout on his face is adorable. “You slept so late. I needed something to do.”
“It wasn’t that late.” He grumbles.
Minseok shrugs and stashes cans of soup and boxes of tea in the pantry. “Sorry.” All the food is put away and he shifts uncomfortably. “So, um, about this morning..”
Junmyeon quirks an eyebrow. “Yeah?”
“Did I, uh. Did I do something to make you mad?”
Minseok is disarmed when his boyfriend makes his way over to him and pats his head. The serene smile on his face gives no hint of the Junmyeon he dealt with a few hours ago. “No silly. How could I ever be mad at such a cute face.” He even squishes his cheeks.

It’s not like Minseok has never been with Junmyeon in the morning, just never right after he’s rolled out of bed or before he’s had breakfast. There were no signs that could’ve clued him into the knowledge that such a small man could be such a grouch.
During the day Junmyeon is the same kind hearted, passionate education major that Minseok fell for. Before 10 am though, he’s nothing short of a spitfire. This is a shock to anyone who knows Junmyeon. He doesn’t seem like he’s even capable of being mean to anyone.
In the 2 years that they’ve been dating, Minseok has never seen this side of him. Junmyeon has never even be rude to anyone. He’s the most polite and mild tempered person Minseok has ever met.
Minseok has wondered how he has such a sunny disposition all the time. Even when he’s stressed and when people are extra rude, Junmyeon is always positive. He knows now how he achieves this.
Junmyeon gets all his negative energy out in the morning before he interacts with anyone.

Morning Junmyeon is only the first hiccup of living together.
The next comes when they go furniture shopping
Junmyeon wants to stick to a more conservative black and white decor, but Minseok thinks they should choose colors that better fit the season.
“Minseokie, if we do that then we’ll have to buy new stuff every season. That’s a hassle.”
“But it’ll keep things fresh! We don’t want things to always look the same. That’s boring.”
Junmyeon sighs. “It’s consistency Minseok.” He shakes his his head but puts the throw pillows that Minseok pointed out into the cart.
The hand Minseok has around Junmyeon’s bicep squeezes as he beams at his boyfriend. “We should get dishes that match!”
Junmyeon lets out a distraught whimper. “Really Min?”
Minseok gives him a quick peck on the cheek. “I’m kidding. Sort of. But they should at least be in the same color pallette.”

Don’t be mislead though, Minseok isn’t flawless. He’s got bad habits that drive Junmyeon insane.
Like when he leaves the bathroom door open while Junmyeon is showering. Or when he walks in the bathroom while Junmyeon is pooping. He often forgets to close the shampoo bottle. Andhis body wash. He leaves the cap off the toothpaste and his toothbrush lying on the counter most mornings. And if Junmyeon thinks he can condition Minseok to put the toilet paper on the dispenser the right way, he’s wrong. Dead wrong.
Minseok has bad bathroom habits and Junmyeon is considering putting a ban on the bathroom. The boy doesn’t need to be left alone in the bathroom with Junmyeon in there to supervise.
The couple is lucky enough that both of them value a clutter-free home. Other than the mess he leaves in the bathroom, Minseok is very tidy and Junmyeon is silently thankful. He’d probably have to move out if he found dirty clothes on the floor or dishes in the sink.
Junmyeon thinks that, despite Minseok’s bad habits (that drive him crazy,) he couldn’t have gotten any luckier. Minseok is the perfect roommate. He learns to be less noisy than he’s used to in the mornings and to just avoid Junmyeon all together when he’s in a particularly nasty mood. Junmyeon will continue to nag Minseok about his terrible bathroom etiquette, and Minseok will continue to leave the door open and talk to Junmyeon while he’s on the toilet. Even though Junmyeon can’t stand it.
Living with another person is rough. It’s worth it though when you love each other. When you get to fall asleep curled up with your favorite person and do small things together, the imperfections don’t matter as much.
When Junmyeon is especially cuddly and won’t leave Minseok’s side, it’s easy to overlook the hostile mornings he endures. When Junmyeon comes home to a smiling boyfriend and dinner waiting for him, it’s hard to remember he was annoyed with that morning.
Finding happiness with another person is easy if you look for your happiness in the small things.
