So last night I saw Midnight Cowboy, what my dad considers the best movie ever made, which got me thinking what my list looks like. I think it's a bit different from "my favorite movies"; there are some movies I love but I recognize they aren't cinematic masterpieces. So here are some movies that I think qualify as truly great films. TELL ME YOURS! ( Read more... )

Life is Beautiful made me cry soooooooo hard. And I just saw Schindler's List for the first time today and wanted to throw up the entire time.

Movies I love that I would consider critically good:

ooo i haven't seen some of these (e tu mama tambien, wristcutters, chinatown (i know i know), before sunrise). BRB netflix queue.

the graduate, departed, and pulp fiction were all movies I considered and ended up cutting up cuz they seemed (for me) to be just short of the level of the other movies. but they are fantastic. i've prob seen the departed like, 15 times, idek.

I think The Graduate and Pulp Fiction are both totally on the same level... Pulp Fiction especially. I think it's Tarantino's best film, the writing and direction (and acting) is all amazing. The Departed is more questionable, I guess, but I find it an amazing film... gripping from start to finish, amazing pacing, acting, and dialogue, and so suspenseful-- I almost pissed myself during the Jack Nicholson scene with Leo, omg. I own it on DVD and have seen it a billion times.

Oh, and I didn't include it but Dog Day Afternoon is really really good too.

omggggggg him and alec baldwin as the supporting characters... and martin sheen too. that movie had the best casting. except apparently kate winslet was considered for the vera farmiga role as the therapist. vera was good but kate would've been AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING omg.
