Crossposted from Tumblr because I went into more detail than I'd thought I would. Let's see if the links still work.
Short, wonderful interview with Voltaire, taken a few years ago. I just realized that some of you might not be familiar with this majestic person. He’s only one of my favorite songwriters EVER, and he says insightful things in this interview about the Goth aesthetic/worldview as a reaction against having to perform happiness.
(But look at that smile... *_*)
Song rec time!
Tons of Voltaire’s work is available online, as he has embraced YouTube.
His channel, the Lair of Voltaire.
USS Make Shit Up, the song most people involved in fandom got to know him by.
When You’re Evil,
Feathery Wings, and
Almost Human: devils and angels.
The Headless Waltz, which is an earworm.
Irresponsible. Is it so wrong if I don’t pay my rent?/ No responsibility, I gave it up for Lent/ Sell your wares, pollute the air, I don’t care/ Fresh air’s for squares…
The Mechanical Girl. I used to listen to this over and over when I got sad. Inspired by Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky.”
Ravens Land, which I like to pair with
Where’s the Girl? Graveyard Picnic, which I’ve adopted as my theme song.
#1 Fan: could have been a cruel satire, is surprisingly gentle.
Raised by Bats: the latest I’ve heard from him. Everything I could have hoped and more.
