I have been watching "Lexx"

Sample exchanges:

Friend: So the lesson we learn here is that if you squish a disembodied brain you will regain your memories.
Me: I didn't know you could do that.
Friend: I'VE never regained memories doing that.
Me: I guess you have to be a zombie bishonen for that to work.

Me: HAVE YOU NOT NOTICED YOU ARE THE BAD GUYS, PEOPLE?
Friend: [shakes head in the negative]

Me: Horrible things are going to happen to these children, aren't they?
Friend: [nods a lot]

Me: Please tell me she's going to be a recurring character! She has a suit made of human skin with the face hanging down the back of her hair! And she doesn't give a damn for anyone!

Me: I feel like the people who made this show had like forty-five separate fetishes they didn't want to own up to.
Show: [black-leather-clad people crawling on their hands and knees being dominated by guys who look like Palpatine; naked people strapped to slabs and vivisected; tattooed Hell's Angel has a gag shoved in his mouth and is electro-tortured while strapped to a revolving table; woman sentenced to brainwashing who escapes by having her DNA fused with a lizard's and forcing a cyborg's severed head to get brainwashed instead; pale, prissy Englishmen wear black fishnet stockings over their faces; spaceship looks like a set of reproductive organs, or possibly a dragonfly; zombie bishonen is cut in chunks and reassembles self; zombie bishonen is enslaved assassin who has been dommed by guys in silly robes for aeons]

Short version, I love it. It's this great mixture of loony sincerity and extreme camp. I enjoy its sense of humor, and the actors are great at putting across silly dialogue while sounding like they believe what they're saying. This show gives good zombie, good monster, and good jailbreak plot. It's a lot like watching an episode of 9-era Doctor Who, only with lots more sick humor, lots more grotesquerie, and no Doctor or companions.

Oh, and the characters in the prologue sing a space chantey as they're going to what turns out to be their collective death. It's beautiful. I heard it and had a strong reaction of, I'm home. This is home.
