Insta-rec: "The Wolfman" fic

Sep 01, 2010 14:26

Technically I'm still on vacation.  I have internet for the day, though.  Time enough for a brief jolt of fannishness.

1.  I just found "Wolfman" fic which is actually good.  The only other stories I've seen are rubbish on ff.net where Mary Sue Talbot inherits the estate after the events of the 2010 movie.  Comparisons are odorous; this is a fine story by any standard.  "The Moon By Day, The Sun By Night", recently written but on the Yuletide archive.  Short, one-shot story about the Talbot brothers as children.  Warning: it's about child abuse, not graphic, but deeply upsetting.  Don't read it expecting the kind of Gothic romp that comprised a lot of the movie.  This is about the grimmer stuff that was occasionally there if you looked for it.

2.  I've been hiver-hovering about participating in Yuletide for several years now and always decided against it.  With the benefit of hindsight, I think that was the right decision, given how school tends to eat my brain to the point where I have no writing energy left for non-school stuff.  However, I've decided that This Fall Will Be Different.  I'm only taking nine credits, for one thing.  Such being the case, I'm tempted to join Yuletide.  I found the above story while wondering if the 2010 Wolfman would count as a rare enough fandom, and it looks like I was right.  I could also propose B&W Horror/the Universal Frankenstein canon/'30s and '40s monster movies as fandom categories, and request and write "Mad Love" fic or similar.  Anyone want to strongly dissuade me or tell me to go forth and conquer?
