Search for Specific Sterek-lite fic
Place: this was definitely on AO3, at least a few months ago.
Generally, this fic is 3rd person tight Stiles POV set in the nearish future, after high school. I think Stiles and the bunch are in college, but the Hale place has been redone some time in the past and Derek had given each pack member, including Stiles, a bedroom and a key to the house, with a lecture about not abusing the privilege. Stiles has an office there, but no bed.
The main trend of the fic, which is gen-ish Sterek (or maybe just slow build?)- Stiles gets that he's annoying, overwhelming, can't stop talking, and gets on people's nerves. So, to keep from overstaying his welcome, he plays it very cool with the pack. He'd love to hang out all the time, but he's scared that if he does that, someday he'll be disinvited for good. So he hangs back, doesn't push, even though he would LOVE to be in the thick of it.
The plot of the fic is a slow realization on Stiles' part that he's been worried for no reason- Derek and the pack like him, aren't put off by him, and have always viewed his reservation with them as Stiles not feeling that intense about the whole 'pack thing.' They were never in danger of ditching him, and he starts to let himself get as involved as he would like.... and I think that turns into some slight romance with Derek, but I am HONESTLY NOT SURE.
