I might be up for pregnant Derek, though, if you ask me. (What can I say? My brain works in mysterious ways . . .)

Length of fics you are able to beta: The first time I beta for an author, I prefer to do a one-shot under 10k, just so the two of us can make sure we can work together. After that, I'm pretty flexible.
What you focus on when you beta: I'll always clean up SPAG, but otherwise I'm good at tailoring my critique to the needs of the writer. Readability is probably my strongest point as a beta, but I'm also good at characterization, consistency, structure, and plot. If you're particularly unlucky, I will even make a chart or a graphic organizer for you!
Sometimes we need a beta who won't hold any punches. Are you willing to be tough and break a fic apart if asked, (yes/no): I will break it apart even if you don't ask! Seriously, though, I spent four years as a high-school English teacher. I'm a hard ass, and I take writing very seriously. That said, however, my focus is always on helping writers improve. If your writing demonstrates a lot of problems, I'm going to automatically switch into teacher mode. That means I'll pick the two or three things that need the most work, and show you how to fix those, rather than driving us both crazy by pointing out every single problem I find. I am a great beta for writers who honestly want to improve their craft. I am a horrible beta for writers who want to be told they are already perfect.

How long a 5000 word fic typically takes you: Typically, a day or two. It's always good to check in with me first if you've got a tight deadline, though -- I travel a lot for work, and sometimes might need a longer turnaround period.
Any additional information: I enjoy brainstorming and cheerleading. I also minored in Latin, if you need to come up with a few lines for someone to translate from the bestiary.
