Colton Haynes on MTV Act.
I don't know if you guys saw this when Colton tweeted it, but i thought i should post it here as well. It doesn't say much but the title caught my attention!
Colton Haynes on What’s Coming Up + Who’s Coming Out On ‘Teen Wolf’
Today is the first in a 3-part “Act’n Up” series with Colton Haynes from MTV’s “Teen Wolf.” Breaking free from Jackson, his “dumb jock” character (his words, not ours) on the show, Colton gives us a little insight about what’s to come on screen, and what Act-worthy themes we can keep our eyes out for. First up: LGBT equality.
This past weekend, cities across the country (helloooo, San Fran, Chicago and New York!) hosted Pride parades and festivals that went next level, celebrating huge civil rights advances (hellooo, Marriage Equality!) and a slow-going but steady cultural shift. We may have a long way to go before establishing countrywide equal legal rights, but as Colton points out, diversity is a part of “real life,” so it’s only logical to represent it in entertainment.
“Why not depict real people on TV and film? I think that a lot of people identify with that. A lot of our audience are part of the LGBT community, and for them to be able to identify with a character that’s not some dumb jock like Jackson’s character …”
Colton, clearly no dumb jock himself, is referencing the developing storyline of one “Teen Wolf” character coming out on the show. For a program centering around themes of self-discovery and self-acceptance, it’s a natural fit. (And a touch closer to home … no offense, werewolves of the world.)
We’ll have to wait and see both what unfolds on TV and what unfolds on the political landscape as other states react to the new act legalizing gay marriage in New York, but with allies strengthening in numbers, we have a lot to be hopeful - and prideful - about. I assume they don't mean Danny being already out and all,so feel free to speculate!
