Summary: Sylar and a unknown victim

I felt him with that tingling sensation at the base of my skull before I even heard the shuffling of his clothes. That sensation that signified a person with extraordinary abilities is somewhere near. I should run, flee from his presence before it's too late.

The touch of slippery grime and rough brick pressed against the palms of my hands as I backed into the wall. My breath exhaled, shallow and fast the closer he comes.

"Please.....no." I beg, but know it is no good now.

The shadow man only grinned, flashing the whites of his teeth as he raised his hand and pointed to my head.

"Oh, please beg some more, my dear. It makes this so much more fun for me." He sneered, eyes flashing with a wild look of a wolf cornering his prey.

My mind raced through any options to save my life and the memories flooded my vision. A kid playing happily with her older siblings. A young, teen-aged girl giggling over the dashing smile of a cute boy. The touch of a young woman's first lover. The smell of a new born son after his bath.

"Why?" It was a simple word, a word I thought would go over his head as nonsense, but he tilted his head and looked at me with curiosity. He laid his elbow on the wall next to my head and leaned on it as he played with my long, blond locks.

"Why." He repeated in a gravelly voice. "You know that is one of my favorite words. I do love to know the answer to that little word. How and why of things, like how you know which people are 'special'."

Yes, he made those little air quotes with his fingers.

"How?" No one knows, I've been so careful.

All he did was shrug. "Doesn't really matter now does it? You're going to be dead in a few minuets anyway."

The shadow man backed off and raised his hand once more, this time the searing pain came as he moved his finger through the air. I barely felt the warm blood trickle down my face before the darkness swallowed me whole.
