in need of omniscience

I downloaded this song years ago while looking for the theme song to "American Dreams" (the fantastic TV show which followed the Prior family. You know, the one with JJ the sexy soldier whose character got progressively darker and who body became more ripped... it was a good show) and the moral of this story is that the song is downloaded is NOT the theme song. It's just some random song by some guy with a great voice and a guitar and some pretty lyrics which I have copied below. If any of you smarties recognize this tune, please let me know who it is... it has been driving me nuts for far too long. NYC was great. I'll post about that tomorrow, but tonight is all about this random dude.

The days are getting shorter
the wind has found her teeth.
I think I'm supposed to be somewhere back East
and I drive alone with my mind
fighting thoughts of this kind
And in the darkness
of these naked empty streets
I'm free to just breathe.

She said I'm the king of random phone calls.
I explained it's just this time of year.
These awkward conversations, these constant isolations
and this town is bringing me down.

(CHORUS:)
Just another American folksong
written for another American girl.
Just another American dreamer
Just another American fall.

So drop me a line, oh, if you can find the time
I'd love to hear just where you've ended up.
This happiness rests at your door:
do you ever think about us anymore?

(CHORUS)

So bogged downwith this flesh and bone
I'm not supposed to feel quite this alone.
miss this clutter watch me stutter step and fall
I haven't the strength to get back up
cause i am empty, floating loveless,
cut me and i bleed only dust

(CHORUS, blah blah, etc.)

much love and thanks to anyone who can identify this guy. jules.
