t’s been ages since I’ve last posted. Let me give my usual apologies, BUT, there’s been one bit of coolness between all the too much work and no time to think that has peppered my life in recent weeks. The bit of fabulousness that I want to share with you could also be considered a bit of craziness, but hey, I’ll accept that it is both fabu and crazy!

I bought my new camera!

Yes I know that I’d only had my D60 for a year, but considering how zealously I’ve jumped into the hobby, it isn’t that surprising that I’d find myself pushing up against the limits of that entry level dSLR. So what to do, what to do? Go to the D300s or make the big jump to the D700? Considering my motto is Go big or go home! it probably isn’t much of a surprise to see that I chose the D700.

Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

Oh my god, this is like camera nirvana! 51 focusing points. Max ISO of 25,000. It is too much!

I also splurged and got the
Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.

At first I called it, The Big Girl. But then there are too many inanimate objects named after women. Then I thought, The Big Boy. But that bugged me because of the implication that the big camera would be male. I considered The Big One for a nanosecond, but the trouble with that one is obvious. Instead, I landed on, My Precious (yes, like Golum in LOTR).

Immediately after receiving the Precious, I set about doing the one thing I never thought I’d do: to take a nice portrait of myself for my dear hubby’s Valentine’s Day present. This is no easy task since in most of my recent pictures, I could easily be confused with a water buffalo. My Precious, however, was up to the task. See what I created in my home portrait studio:

And see, this is the water buffalo:

You can actually tell us apart now! That’s the mark of a great camera!

Stay tuned for images from Monte Carlo….
