It’s My Birthday And I’ll Play If I Wanna

After all the events of this month, my 44th birthday is kinda anticlimactic. I mean, come on. Zara’s birth, my first Mother’s Day, graduation and getting a few more letters behind my name…turning 44 is just like, whatever. At least it beats the alternative.

Since I was not in the most “let’s celebrate” mood, my dear daughter opted to be a fussbudget for most of the morning. I think she’s getting gassy and uncomfortable from her formula. As much as I would like to produce all the breastmilk she needs, I’m lucky if she gets 4 ounces from me per day. As such, I’ve got to supplement with formula despite any naysaying from La Leche League.

We started with Enfamil Lipil and immediately had colicky symptoms. We then tried a half day of Good Start, to no avail. We then moved to Gentlease Lipil, which is lactose reduced. She did fine on this until cheap diva mommy bought the Target brand Gentlease. Next thing you know, little girl is pooping rocks and straining to produce poo that looks like the Play-Doh.

It may have nothing to do with the Target brand formula. That might just have been coincidence. But just in case I changed to Enfamil Lactofree (non-Target brand). I also listened to those who suggested Karo syrup either in water or in her formula. Two days of Karo produced more stool than I thought her little colon could handle. So I backed off to see how she would do on just the lactose free formula…and the gas and straining is back. This afternoon, she had more Karo. Now she is sleeping soundly (for a minute) in her pink chair. I’m afraid of what her diaper no doubt contains.

But I digress.

Since AdoringHusband is working until 5, Miss Z and I have had the house to ourselves. And all I want to do is go back to my game of Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst. No, this isn’t one of those role playing games. This game is best described as Where’s Waldo for adults. It’s perfect for those of us with OCD. You are solving mysteries by finding objects in a set of rooms. It isn’t as easy as it sounds, but goodness is it habit-forming.

I started with Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects, which is actually the 2nd in the series. I then backtracked to MCF: Huntsville, the first game. Took a detour to the similar but more challenging Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, and am now working through Ravenhearst with AdoringHusband. I don’t want to go through it too quickly since the 4th MCF title has not yet come out.

My other guilty pleasure is having discovered Ricky Gervais’ podcasts through Audible.com. You know Ricky from the British (original) version of The Office and from HBO’s series, Extras. I’d heard a lot of buzz about his podcasts, but had never downloaded one. But since I was racking up Audible credits every month and not using them, I thought this might be a good use of a credit or two.

We started listening as we drove down to Delaware for Zara’s birth. All I can say is that they are hysterical. Karl Pilkington, their producer and idiot-savant without the savant, is a wonder to behold. I highly recommend your checking out this podcast through itunes or audible when you want a good laugh.

Well the princess is waking up and is cranky again, so I’d better finish. I’ll leave you with a few new pictures:
