hat a great Christmas we had this year for Zara’s first! We opted to stay in PA rather than making the trek to LA to be with the rest of the family. The house was decorated (inside and out), the tree trimmed, and the presents bought. Even
Personalized Creations came through for us, after my last
hissy fit about them. I was thrilled, though
Millie dogged me about having a personalized holiday doormat.
(Yes, I took out the names!!)
I got our 180 holiday cards sent out before Christmas (with dear Millie’s help since a certain AdoringHusband decided that going to bed was more important than stuffing envelopes). This mailing included a 4-page glossy family newsletter. Most family and friends loved it, but some, who shall remain nameless, felt that a) I have too much time on my hands and b) my therapist is not working hard enough with me! Whatever! It was a good year. I’m allowed to be happy.
We attended midnight Mass with Zizi in tow and she decided that she was the person who should be speaking and not the priest. Luckily we were in the church’s crying room, so we didn’t disturb too many people.
And on the big day, Zara managed to get through 4 presents before she had to have a nap. Her alphabet drum was found to be most smackable and thus was her favorite. That was until the next day when she opened her singing stage Fisher Price thing that my brother sent. There she can sing songs and look at herself in the mirror. The drum got pushed aside.
I’m still trying to figure out one of the gifts I got for her: Lulu. There are actually 2 Lulus. The main Lulu is this chair:
. The other Lulu is a little plush toy:
And, as a person who has watched too damn many sci-fi movies, my AdoringHusband has taken to calling them MegaLulu and Mini-Lu, respectively.
The problem is with MegaLulu (now he’s got me doing it). I can’t find a way to get her to sit in the chair without Lulu’s face pushing her out of the chair! Something is just not right here. It’s a cute little thing, but she just can’t sit in it. Hmmm….
But back to the big day, AdoringHusband and I enjoyed
Peach Ginger Bellinis with Bed and Breakfast Buttermilk Waffles. Dinner was
Filet Mignon with a balsamic reduction and goat cheese, (that is still stuck to my Calphalon pan),
roasted green beans,
chive-garlic mashed potatoes and
eggnog-panettone bread pudding for dessert. (Zizi dined on her favorite Vegetable Beef 2nd foods with Vanilla Custard for dessert).
Oh and the presents! Zizi gave me pajamas from J. Jill. Willow and Aurora gave me two fuzzy sweaters. And dear AdoringHusband did not give me the iPhone I had been dropping not-too-subtle hints about. But he did give me a beautiful Shetland…I mean shearling coat with a fur trimmed hood. (For some reason I keep saying “Shetland,” and not shearling. I think it has to do with that damned Verizon commercial with the pony. “Does he bite?” “Yeah.”) I’ve wanted a Shetland…damn, there I go again…shearling coat for ages! I was thrilled. Hell, I’ll get my own damn iPhone!
All I can say by way of summing up is that we are just so happy and blessed. What a difference a year makes…
I wish everyone happiness, love and joy in the New Year! May all our wishes be granted!
