On the afternoon before I ventured to BabiesRUs with my friend K, she sent me an e-mail advising me to “put on my Mommy Hat” before we entered the store. Truth be told, I didn’t realize that I even had a Mommy Hat. Becoming a mom always felt like one of those pipe dreams that would never happen for me thanks to The Curse of Liana’s Body or some such melodramatic moniker.
Yet now, just a couple of weeks later, I’m realizing that I do indeed have a Mommy Hat. I’m not fully comfortable wearing it most of the time, but I’m starting to get used to it.
Thinking about topics such as the right baby carrier, diaper pail or infant monitor is a new thing for me. Mommy stuff was a no man’s land that I knew I would never visit. Again, how life does change. Today I spent some time reviewing jogging strollers (
BOB Ironman is what I decided on). My Mommy Hat was on pretty comfortably during that brief time.
Yet my continued failure to produce any breastmilk despite my pumping regimen knocks my Mommy Hat askew. Once again my body lets me down. But I don’t want to talk about that. This is a no whining day.
I do, however, want to thank each and every one of you who responded to my
Baby Stuff questions. Initially I tried writing individual replies to everyone’s posts, but I quickly realized that would be a large undertaking, since everyone was so helpful. I hope you don’t mind that I say “thank you” for all the great information and feedback. You guys are helping me settle my Mommy Hat onto my large head once and for all.
