I had my interview. It seemed to go fine, although I felt "off". I think that was because some of the questions were about why I wanted to leave and take a new job, and that was kind of hard for me to justify to myself, much less someone else. It's a cool job for someone. I just don't think the pros outweigh the cons for me.
Pros:
I'd get to escape from the demoralizing atmosphere at current job
the editing is for larger projects and more interesting ones than I normally do at current job
the company is in a very cool old house in downtown Austin right next to a park
the medical benefits and 401K are generous
Cons:
taking this job would mess with me vesting with the state
a pension is better than a 401K if you live to be old, and that is my plan
it's a for-profit membership company, not a nonprofit membership association, as I thought (if I work for the state or a nonprofit, some of student loans will be forgiven eventually through a certain plan)
I would miss my coworkers a ton
I would have less sick and vacation time
there is no teleworking
I'll be staying at DARS for now, it seems.
