Quick post before I get back to reading Broken

OK, few things:

Saw HBP, and do believe it, like the book, is my favourite movie thus far. Despite being quite the Harry Potter fan, as anybody who knows me can testify, I am definitely not the biggest fan of the movies. I find a lot of the acting disappointing (even acting by actors that I know are brilliant, so maybe it's the direction rather than the acting that irks me, but whatever) and often what happens in the movies is twisted in a way that I don't enjoy, etc.

But in HBP that stuff wasn't as apparant. I'll never be a huge Emma Watson fan (apart from in pictures, because Merlin she's hot, and were her acting better I'd love the fact that she plays one of my favourite characters), but I actually think her performance in HBP wasn't too bad. A few cringe-worthy moments to be sure, but I thought some of the more tender scenes, like the one with Harry just after she shoots the birds at Ron, she actually did pretty bloody well. And the holding hands with Ron bit as well. Maybe I just don't like her voice, hehe.

I also liked how the film was very light in parts (One word: Pie?) but had the dark bits at the end done, while not at all like the books (where was the battle??) quite well. There was twisting done, but it was OK twisting, if you know what I mean? So yeah.

Luna, of course, was wonderful. I love Evanna Lynch's portrayal, despite my not being able to spell her name, and I wonder if she could possibly do any other character, because she's just so Luna. And as for the kid they got to play childhood Tom, my god... talk about the perfect amount of creepy. Brilliant casting. If Emma could act better she too would be a great choice... sorry, moving on from Emma... Rupert was great, as always, and Tom really did Draco justice. I've always felt Tom was a thoroughly decent actor, but he hadn't had much of a chance to show himself before this. But he portrayed Draco's arrogance in the beginning and his fear in the end very well indeed. So I continue to be pleased with Tom. Bonnie... hmm... I dunno about Bonnie. I think acting-wise she's all right, but I get the impression that she doesn't really quite know what Ginny's about. Ginny has this fantastic strength about her; a fierce determination that I think Harry finds intriguing and irresistable, and I don't think Bonnie's quite grasped that. Mind you I've always felt she was perhaps not the greatest choice for Ginny. Daniel, well, at least you can tell, from the weird facial expressions he pulls when he's acting, that he's trying.
In non-HBP-related news, I got mod's choice this week in dramione_ldws . To say that I was mildly surprised would be the understatement of the century. I was absolutely flawed. So again, thank you to the Mods for giving me such an honour.

And last, I've spent the past few days reading "Broken" by inadaze , and it's brilliant. She's a very talented writer. Her characters are, while not canon, absolutely believable. The way she shows the pain these characters go through is second to none, and I thoroughly recommend this fic to anybody who is at all Dramione-tragic.

Right, that's all from me. Signing off.

acting, fanfiction, movies, lj comm: dramione_ldws, fic rec, yay.
