J had his first day of pre-K yesterday. He seemed to have a decent time, although he said it was "boring." I suspect that had to do with the teachers' student assessment testing more than the everday experience will be for him, though. I was working and D had a late class, so he went home with one of his friends. J isn't always the poster boy for kindness with his brother, so I felt a little nervous about it. I emailed the mom to see how he behaved, and her response was "his behavior is JUST LIKE EVAN'S!" which made me feel much better. D called at six and all I could hear in the background was whining (he didn't want to leave his friend's house) and when I told Evan's mom, she said, "Well, now I know what to expect on Wednesday." I need to do some straightening-up today because those kids are going to go through trains, cars and Rokenbok like a freaking hurricane.
This morning, I threw his lunch together and took him and his brother down to the school for drop-off. I'm going to try to put together a webpage (google, maybe?) so we four families can coordinate carpooling better starting next week. I had a chance to talk to some of the parents I don't know this morning, and they all seemed really nice. A little girl named Giovanni marched right up to J and gave him a hug as soon as we got to the door. When I asked what her name was, I didn't understand at first, and J gave me the full-'tude, eye-rolling correction - "It's Giovanni," like "Duh, can't you HEAR?" Hmph.
I'm looking forward to this. I get days with the Dude by himself, and there'll be a day every week or so when I can leave the Dude for a full day and have a couple of hours with my elder child to do big-boy stuff.
