I came out in 2002...I never paid much to gay rights or politics before that. I vaguely recall being disappointed in the blood donation laws for gay men...
But I vividly remember 2004...Bush was re-elected and Ohio passed an amendment to say that marriage is between one man and one woman...and I remember feeling rather hopeless about things..4 years later I left Ohio.
I can't say Obama is the greatest president ever...but last week for the first time in ages I went to sleep hopeful that I might someday be treated as an equal in this country...and while Colorado had defeated legislation the Governor had promised to do something about it...he forced a special session that began today to re-open the discussion of civil unions in Colorado...and tonight 5 people who I have never met voted over 4 more people that I have never met to tell me that I don't deserve equal rights...
