Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that

So, yes, it HAS be a while since I posted here, I know.

But I had a quiet Sunday to myself, so I'm taking a moment to catch up.

When last I sat down to write here, I think I had just begun working for a security company as a guard, and I was being shuttled all around their various corporate contract sites, mostly huge office towers in the Toronto financial district.

However, one assignment was at the Bell Media CTV Network production center at 299 Queen Street West, which most Torontotonians still know as the old CHUM CITY studio complex.

I loved the assignment, and the corporate security supervisors at CTV liked me, too.  That first day, they asked if I'd like to train to become one of their core group of guards.  I definitely did, and so arrangements were made for my training on the specifics of the site, and now I am indeed one f their "bullpen" guards, assigned permanently to the daily afternoon live music show "New Music Live" and the weekly MTV Canada show "The After Show" and also doing fill-in shifts in the security office, handling sign-in of guests, controlling parking and lot access, etc.

I love working at the CTV Studios.  All of the people are friendly and fun to work with, my managers and supervisors are really great and I very much respect them, and everyone at the site seems to go out of their way to make this a great place to work.  It is by far the best site I've worked at, and I am delighted to be assigned permanently here.

Over the Christmas and New Year holidays, I have been scheduled to work night shifts, and I've enjoyed them.  All the studios and shows are shut down for the holiday except the 24-hour news channel, so things have been quiet and the shifts have been very easy.  Plus, it has been nice to get off work at 7 AM and walk the downtown streets when all is quiet.  I enjoyed having a peaceful and quiet opportunity to take in the Hudson's Bay Company flagship store animated window decorations, and the spectacular lighting displays outside the Eaton Centre.  And I am glad that the guards whose shift I covered were able to spend more holiday time with their families.

So, as I look forward to the new year, I am very grateful to have found a job and a work environment that I love, and to be able to perform in a way that makes my employers very, very happy to have me on their security team.

My health is good, I am enjoying life and I am delighted to have so many wonderful people in my life.  For now, things are going well for me, and I am very happy for that.

I hope you have had good holidays, as well, and I wish you all the best for the new year!
