Can I get an AMEN?

Sep 13, 2012 22:23

Over on the Book of Face, I post even more political stuff than here, believe it or not.

And there are folks who say I am just preaching to the choir.

To them, I have just one thing to say:

Can I get an AMEN?

Which reminds me of this favourite scene from one of my favourite movies.

I understand that politics is very important to you ..
And yes..you probably are the most "preaching to the chior" person I consistently read on both sites

I doubt you are impressing any staunch conservatives...since, as you already know...Romney can just about do or say anything...and they will STILL vote for him...So that's what people mean by "preaching to the choir"...liberals likely love what you have to say..conservatives will likely ignore it..no matter how logical or compelling the case you make

As for myself..I have to force myself to NOT take politics too seriously, I already have high blood pressure and other threatening factors in my life....so I need to shut things off and do my part by voting and encouraging others to vote. So..count me as someone who is not very "internet - active" politically

I hope for the best...but I am not going to get too emotional about things (for my own sake)..if the best doesnt happen. You, on the other hand, probably wouldn't be satisfied unless you are fully engaged ..and on a daily basis,. There is nothing wrong with being a man of strong political convictions. Just dont let is consume you to the extend that it ruins your day...take a break and have some fun. Long after you and I are gone....the political parties will remain ruthless, deceptive and (in many cases) cruel towards those who need help the most

i'm kinda in the middle...mostly because i don't have the time. Granted, i probably watch far more MSNBC than i should, but i try to limit it to my beloved Rachel. And yes, i actually watched more of the speeches at the Rep convo then the Dems. The only part i really dread if the worst happens is that the SCOTUS will be lobbed to the right so far it won't come back for a good 20+ years. Other than that, nothing will happen because everything will be fillabustered. *sigh*

The pendulum swings to one end...gets too extreme...AND returns to the center...and then swings to the other end. This is what a lifetime of following politics has taught me. The extremely liberal years of Johnson gave way to Nixon..which gave way to Carter, which gave way to Reagan/Bush...which gave way to Clinton which gave way top Bush..which gave way to Obama. Thats how it goes.

And also...nothing ever gets as extreme as people tend worry about. Even Obama...with a 61 vote majority in the Senate and control of the House...never got as extreme as the Conservative voters allowed themselves to get paranoid about

This country has had a self correcting mechanism over the years. I am not sure if it is due to "big business" and their concern about profits and markets...(liberal and gays Do spend big money as consumers) .or the media (24/7 news streams and analysis) ...or the fact that many looney conservatives and liberals change their tune when confronted with the reality of governing...and staying in power.

Whatever..it is....there is a self correcting mechanism in American politics...and things never get as worse as people always fear. I suspect the same will happen in the next ten years.

As for gays...like black rights and women's rights before them ...it will continue to be a two steps forward..one step backward struggle...but in the end...looney right wing and all...gays will continue to advance. As for abortion...I am an extreme liberal...but also a grandfather...so I am not very pro-abortion. I dont even know what the debate is about anymore. It seems to be more about...who is going to win the argument ....than it is about a woman's right to ...er..."choose".

The debate about abortion is that they want a 100% rollback of Roe v Wade - overturning 30 years of law. No exceptions. Get raped? Tough, you gotta have that kid. A living reminder of what happened. Daddy fucked his little girl? Welcome to the family you little inbred.

That is the new face of the republican party. The "center" has gone way to the right. Obama is practically equal to Ronald Reagan and he would be booted out of the party.

i used to think that those douchebags on the right would die off, but they just get replaced by younger douchebags. It's really a sad state of affairs.

Well yes...we currently have the American version of "The Taliban" running most of the Republican party. Maybe I am being overly optimistic...but it takes money to win elections...and big business and the Donald Trumps of the world (while they hate Obama) will not give money for long to an American Taliban Party. The rich have monetary interests on both the right and the left. The Jewish guy who is funding much of Romneys campaign...Sheldon Adelson....for example....I dont think he will give money to a Tea Party that feels that Christianity is the only valid religion..and that the Jews are responsible for killing Christ. And lots of "douchebags' feel that way. They are racist and anti-semetic. We'll have to see.

As for Abortion...thats what makes the abortion debate something I do not want to particpate in,. One side wants total (100 percent) abortion freedom and the other side wants total (100 percent) ban on abortion. There is no middle ground. There is no "compromise".
