work, fire meetings and other general stuff

so today i sat through all 4.5 hours of fire planning information talk which was excellent but also rather scary.
Particularly when CFA media advisor for the area informed us that the minimum amount of time it would take to get off the mountain in a fire emergency situation would be 3.5 hours!!!!!
MINIMUM, this also apparently is a conservative estimate.
This coupled with the fact that we are basically uppey downey landscape up here, which would allow fires to race up and down gulleys and create their own wind patterns and micorclimates and in all probability wipe out entire towns in 10 to 15 minutes, has made me reasses my fire plans somewhat. No wait and see, if it's a total fire ban i leave, i leave at 6am or before that day or as early as i find out or preferrably i leave the day before. Thankfully my works policy is if it's a total fire ban we shut, no arguments, we lock the doors the night before, signs on the doors and we go. Which is surprisingly not the general rule of thumb up here, a lot of people are told they have to stay open till extreme or sever catogories hit.To say I am surprised after last summer that people in a high risk zone have this atitude is an understatment.
But i suppose that's the payoff for living up here, and in reality we only have around 12 such days a summer like that up here.

In other news this weeks new recipes so far have been Meatballs in tomatoe passatta with couscous with pine nuts and sultana's (monday night). and Green vegetable stir fry with black bean sauce which i made with organic vege's from the local grocer in kallista and was immensley yummy. Both from a ainsley harriet book i borrowed from the local library. I like his recipes immensley, good flavours and cooking times are not to far off, also ingrediants aren't to esoteric.

So feeling good have survived meetings which i was extremely paranoid about, was the last hurdle in the new job (i hate meetings so much i had actually managed to avoid them all together for the last 2 years of my previous job by getting myself placed on front desk :), i have a huge fear of anything that feels classroom like and the fear of bieng trapped and unable to escape)
but the fear was conquered and feeling more and more relaxed at work, love the people, love the work, how many people are that lucky.

Ohh and i also finished B's Logo which i'm rather proud of even if i do say so myself, hope she likes it, I haven't heard anything back yet.
