i'm browsing through some photoblogs of people i don't know, and about forty-nine out of fifty comments on the posted pictures are positive and encouraging without being the least bit critical. along the lines of "fantastic shot! i like the contrast," and "brilliant, positively stunning" over and over again. photography is subjective, so technically there are no "bad" photos, but the subjectivity is what makes it so great. it's interesting that one person can find a shot dull and pointless ("it doesn't work for me" is usually the sugarcoated comment) and another can think it's fascinating. people seem to be afraid of the 'if you can't say anything nice' rule, but i wish both would show themselves equally in photoblog comments.
