FDA’s regulation of the food supply

In the interest of the freedom of choice and informed choice, I think the FDA should require food products that include the meat or milk of cloned animals be labeled. Although the FDA’s research concluded that there is no difference between meat from cloned and non-cloned animals , the research has not looked at long-term effects given that cloning is relatively new. After more time has passed (and more research and longer studies have been conducted), I may be convinced it is safe. One factor that mutes my skepticism is the human body’s ability to endure and adapt. That aside, I still want my food labels to tell me if my food is cloned. Produce is labeled organic so by the same logic I want my meat labeled…cloned or not cloned.

The standard arguments against labeling are it creates unnecessary costs (thus raising the price of the food). I am interested to hear other arguments against the labeling.

And if the FDA won’t listen to my request then I’ll take my request to the market…the supermarket. I am writing a letter to all my local grocery stores to ask them to label their food otherwise I will look for alternative places to shop for my meat and dairy products, which includes eliminating the items from my diet.
