Election update 3...

May 05, 2005 07:58

Polls have been open for an hour already. I'm just sitting in bed having a cup of tea, then I'm off to the gym to watch subtitled news while listening to MTV as I do my workout. Then I need to spend most of the day pattern cutting as Friday is pretty much going to be a non-day for me.

Polls close at 10pm, and the first result is expected just before midnight. To win the election, one party (i.e Labour) must win 324 seats. When Parliament was dissolved in April, Labour held 410 seats, The Conservatives 165, The Lib Dems 54.

Current analysis of various polls taken during the campaign suggest a best scenario for Labour of a majority of 142, and a worst case scenario of a majority of 16 (if every constituancy that used tactical voting to elect a Labour MP in the 1997 election reverses the trend and votes tactically for a Tory, Lib Dem or other candidate), so I think we're pretty much set for 5 years of the same.
